I meant her first married surname (if she was married twice) or her only married surname (if she was married once), not her forename. I've checked the image. It actually says Mr John Wright. The final downstroke of the M is rather curved so has been mistaken for a C and the superscript 'r' has been ignored. It would appear that Electoral Records for the period are held at the Essex Record Office: http://seax.essexcc.gov.uk/GetPage.asp?ID=33 They do searches for those who can't get there. I lived about a mile from Wesley Road for a few years - but not until the early 1980s. Dear List, I received a death notice that indicates the lady died at her daughter's home at 7 Wesley Avenue in Colchester on 22 Aug 1969. The daughter's given name would be Doris. I am trying to determine if she remarried. Does anyone have access to information that would show who lived at the address in that time frame? Thanks Bruce Heath, Ohio
Hello Dennis Elijah has been transcribed as Elizah Galley in both the 1871 and 1881 censuses; he is clearly shown as a son, but the handwriting style of the two enumerators was perhaps a little difficult for the transcription. For 1871 In RG10 1664 in Little Leighs, Schedule 27: David Galley, head, married, 41, Ag. Lab., Great Waltham, Essex Ann Galley, wife, married, 41,,Felstead, Essex James Galley, son, unmarried, 11,, Little Leighs, Essex Ann Galley, daughter, unmarried, 9, scholar, Little Leighs, Essex Elizabeth Galley, daughter, unmarried, 7, scholar, Little Leighs, Essex Elijah Galley, son, unmarried, 5, scholar, Little Leighs, Essex Mary Galley, daughter, unmarried, 7 months, Little Leighs, Essex In defence of the enumerator he has not actually written 'unmarried' against the children, but he has included a ditto mark. For 1881 In RG11 1765 in Little Leighs in the Rural Sanitary District of Chelmsford, Schedule 28: 'Cottage' David Galley, head, married, 48, Ag. Lab., Essex, Great Waltham Ann Galley, wife, married, 49,,Essex, Felsted Elijah Galley, son, unmarried, 15, Ag. Lab., Essex, Little Leighs Mary Galley, daughter, unmarried, 10, scholar, Essex, Little Leighs Regards John Orchard
Haven't found on born in 1866, but found one born in the Chelmsford District in 1865 - Jul/Aug/Sep quarter, 4A 171. Not such a common name so this could well be the one. One portrait was taken in the studios of R J Sheffield, 171 Fore Street, Edmonton. N. with a number 3284. Another, at the Modern Studio, London Rd. West Croydon. Unfortunately, no dates. A third is signed by her. It is embossed with the name B & W Fisk (then, looks like Moore), Canterbury. Hello List. Must now dispose of batch of old misc photos of friends of family taken in the early 1900's. Seems a shame just to "bin them" without asking. I am looking for a birth record, and the names of the parents of Elijah GALLEY, b. 1866 @ Little Leighs, Essex. He appears on the 1891 census for Islington, London with his wife, Fanny Tyson. He also appears on the 1901 census for the Portland Convict Establishment, Portland Dorset. I have been unable to find anyone named Elijah GALLEY on either the 1871 or 1881 census. Thanks in advance... Dennis Galley, Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada

Hello All, I am trying to find out more about my paternal great-grandmother's side of the family. Her maiden name was Mary Maria Parry. She was married in South Africa to my great-grandfather, James Howells. I am copying the SA and Essex lists, since she was born in the UK and died in South Africa. The information I have is that she was born in England in May 1864, and died in South Africa on 15 August 1944. Her mother's name was Mary Rebecca Parry, and I am trying to find out her maiden name and her husband's name. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and kind regards, Wendy
