    3. Hi David, When I google <pictures of tendring church> (without the brackets) it comes up with quite a few results. These were the first two... http://www.flickr.com/photos/celpelly/tags/tendring/ http://essexchurches.co.uk/church.asp?p=Tendring They seem to have quite a few nice photos of the interior and exterior of the church. Also, a little further down the google results page... http://www.gravestonephotos.com/public/cemetery.php?cemetery=116&limit=1 I don't know how comprehensive that website it is, but it doesn't list any VESEYs at Tendring. Perhaps as suggested earlier they were at different church within the Tendring registration district? You might be able to use that website to find them though. 3. I can't help with photos, but you may find that since Tendring is a district as well as a village a recording of a name for Tendring in the deaths may not necessarily mean a burial in the village. I have an interest in Wix which is in Tendring district and there are some Vesseys, Veseys and Veaseys there from 17th century. Antony Anyone on the List live near Tendring? Hi Sharon Samuel MEAD per Portland (1) has been claimed on http://www.claimaconvict.net/index.html Cant find any ref in the Trove newspapers or in http://members.webone.com.au/~sgrieves/deaths_yass_courier_page_2.htm He didn't leave a will. Its quite unusual to have the death of a former convict indexed with names of parents . Far more common to have just name and age, but anything's possible ........ 3. Hi Folks, I am a newbie to your list and thought I would post my interest for this county in case anyone has a connection or could offer some help. I am looking for a Samuel MEAD/E born abt 1810 possibly of Burntwood or Brentwood. He is the son of James Mead and Margaret (surname unknown). Unfortunately what I know of him is not a lot except that he was sentenced at Chelmsford in 1831 for stealing some geese and he was transported to NSW, Australia for 7 years. He later married and died here. On won records it is stated that he was from Brentwood but when I ordered the film in I could not find him. Then recently I found his obituary in one of the papers for NSW and it states he was from Burntwood. Could SKS please have a look in the Parish Registers for Burntwood to see if he is recorded with his parents and any siblings. Unfortunately I don’t know when and where the parents married so I have hit a brick wall with this one. It has taken me 21 years to get this much on him. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. 1. [Ess] Bertram Alan WEARING
    2. Mike Wearing
    3. I am trying to trace Bertram Alan WEARING, son of Jane WEARING and unknown, who was born 26 February 1902 at Enstone Oxfordshire. He possibly lived in the Ipswich area of Suffolk. Hence my request for help to the Suffolk list. Bertram's mother Jane was a sister to my paternal grandfather. This is what I know about Bertram: 1911 Census lists Bertram and his mother Jane staying with Bertram's grandparents Thomas and Sally WEARING in Enstone Oxfordshire. Bertram was a seaman in the Royal Navy during WW1, for there is a medal card for him. Bertram married Sylvia M. M. KEITH in 1928 in Malta. The marriage was recorded in the Army Chaplins Register of Marriages in Malta. Sylvia arrived in the UK with daughter Barbara, 2 years old, in April 1932 aboard the Barabool coming out of Sydney, Australia. They were going to Duke Street, Hintlesham, Suffolk, near Ipswich. (I have no proof that this is the Sylvia that Bertram married in Malta). There is a Barbara M. WEARING who was born in Malta in 1929. I have a copy of a death certificate for a Bertram Allen WEARING (different spelling of Alan), who died in 1966 at age 64 (Registration District: Ipswich, Suffolk, Volume 4b, page 1141). The certificate states that he died 18 March 1966 at the Ipswich and East Suffolk Hosital, Anglsea Road Wing, Ipswich. He lived at 16 Deben Way, Felixstowe, and was a retired Flight Lieutenant, Royal Air Force. The cause of death was Cerebral Thrombosis b. Hypertension. The informant was Barbara M. BEARE, daughter, who was present at the death. She was then living at 155, Sunnymead Drive, Waterlooville, near Portsmouth. (So I assume that this Barbara was the daughter of Sylvia who travelled from Australia in 1932. (I have no proof that this is my relative). I would be interested to hear how I might connect the Bertram Alan WEARING who was born at Enstone in 1902 with the Bertram Allen WEARING who died at age 64 in Ipswich in 1966. I would think that the age and similarity of the somewhat unusual name would indicate that this is likely the same person. Any help much appreciated. Mike Wearing, Nova Scotia, Canada

    3. Dear Rob, I hope that this is of help. The Chelmsford Chronicle for March 16th 1798 reports; “at our Assizes, which ended on Friday last (9th) …………………Sam.James the Younger , for stealing a £10 bank note and six shillings out of a bureau………. Death recorded.” He was not left for execution by the Judge (Baron Hotham?) so the likelihood was that he was transported, either to Van Diemens Land, to other parts of Australia, or to Bermuda. The value of being in a family history society is often there are links in Australia you can ask for help. Further research at the National Archive might be useful. ASSI contains most indictments at Assizes (on velum) and you might find the place of offence. CO also contains lists of convicts on their way to transportation. Hulks like Justicia and Censor also held prisoners for years before they were transported, some even found jobs on board the hulks. If I go to the Essex Record Office within the next week I will have a look for the 1797 Assize. 1. [Ess] Brentwood Lunatic Asylum
    2. Rosetta Ann Fisk nee Jarvis b. c. 1835 Rainham, Essex. She is in Blue Houses Rainham from 1841 - 1881. She married Henry Fisk in 1861 he dies 1889 r. Billericay, Essex.   I can't find her for 1891 but in 1901 she turns up in the Brentwoood Lunatic Asylum (can't think of a PC name for it, although I know where it is) as R.A Fisk.    I am trying to find her in the 1911 census (Brentwood Lunatic Asylum possibly) but I can't find her no matter what computation I put in. I thought the address search would be helpful but can't figure out that computation either. I can't find her in any other location.   Does anyone have an ancestor who is there for 1911 that I could piggy back from? Then I can troll the whole census.   She dies in 1920 in Billericay registration district. Could that be the Asylum?    I have not purchased her death certificate so can't confirm the death details in 1920.   Thanks, Shirley in Florida
