    1. Re: [Ess] OT Towers district
    2. yes, thank you, Pat. Tower Hamlets is what I meant. quite tired last night, it would not come to mind, but I knew I had a good chance of forgetting it totally by morning. I have "lost" most of my Colchester family in 1841. my 3x great grandfather is visiting his mother in Colchester, but I have several clues that point me to Middlesex (or London) as his place of residence in the 1840's. in 1843 he immigrated to America. where were his wife and family in 1841? I have various places he may have lived, Tower Hamelets, St. George in the East, St. Leonard Shoreditch, St. Marylebone, St. George Hanover, Miles End Old Town (all Middlesex), but they don't show up anywhere in 1841 at Ancestry-except for my 3x great grandfather and his widowed mother. I do find his siblings families, but not his. the missing family members his eldest child, already married and with a family of his own; Joseph Aubrey Cross b. 13 Aug 1803, wife Rebecca (Sidnell), b. Spring, 1815 children; Joseph James b. 3 Oct 1834 Rebecca K. b. 13 Dec 1835 George William b. abt 1838 Aubrey Joseph b. abt 1838 maybe John P. b. 1841 Hannah Cross nee Smith b. 12 Dec 1785 of Colchester Maria Ann b. 27 Aug 1809 Colchester William H. b. 28 Sep 1811 Colchester John b. 2 Aug 1815 Colchester Hannah Lydia b. 13 Jan 1818 Colchester James b. 27 Jul 1820 Colchester Josiah A. b. 4 Oct 1822 Colchester none of the children listed with Hannah married until after immigrating to America. I have a lot of data on the Cross's, they're a heavily papertrailed line, but little of anything on Hannah Smith Cross, and no census for 1841 for her or any of her children. and while I'm here-who was Aubrey Cross b. abt 1793 of Miles End Old Town? I wonder if he is the person who Joseph Aubrey was named for, and how he fits into the family-if he does? thank you. 1. [Ess] Missing 1871 census images/transcriptions for Ardleigh, Essex on ancestry.com
    2. Karen Dickson
    3. Any members of ancestry.com with an interest in Ardleigh should note that a good deal of the 1871 census is missing from their database. Districts 1 and 2 are completely missing and only the last page (page 15) of District 3 is included. District 4 seems ok. I notified ancestry.com of this problem back on 3rd January, 2010 and was told - "Please understand that fixes to errors on Ancestry are posted firstly in the order of those which affect the greatest number of users, and thereafter in the order in which they are reported. For this reason, fixes for some errors may take longer than others to be posted. We appreciate your patience." After waiting for 1 year and 8 months I contacted them again and was told - "We appreciate your interest in the 1871 England Census. We currently have a hired team that scans and transcribes the collections we receive. Please understand that we receive a large volume of error submissions in our queue. Fixes to errors on Ancestry.com are posted firstly in the order of those which affect the greatest number of users, and thereafter in the order in which they are reported. As the queue is quite large, there is no foreseeable timeframe as to if or when those changes will be made. We regret the inconvenience this may cause." I suspect many ancestry.com members are just unaware that these records are missing and might waste considerable amounts of time looking for records that just are not there to be found. So if this problem is affecting any other ancestry.com members on the list please take note and contact ancestry.com to have this problem fixed. Thanks Karen Sydney, Australia

    3. Hi Cornelia There is no Towers (or Tower) district in 1841. The City had three EDs - London City, East London and West London. There are no significant missing bits of any of these, so far as I am aware. The major gaps in the 1841 for London are the whole of Paddington, part of Kensington and bit of St Luke. Hope this helps Caroline > > recent talk of missing census reminds me that I need a refresher. were > the 1841 census records for the Towers(?) district in E. 3. Hope you are still reading this list Brian -it's so long since I was in touch that I have no idea if I still have your address. I have recently bought a postcard off ebay addressed to Miss Dix, Angel Hotel, Market Harbro, Leicestershire, franked at Portsmouth on August 7th 1905. The message reads "Dear Edna, Please have you a photo you can give me Nora Furness Lodge Southsea East. The reason I think Edna Dix might be one of yours is, despite where it was franked, and apparently sent from, it is of Hempstead in Essex. Hope that is of interest! Adrian

    2. As you are new to the list I have mentioned acronyms that regular listers know, but you would not. The Essex Record Office (ERO) has many of the parish registered digitised on SEAX (ERO's online  service)  for you to seach. However, looking at ARKESDEN the earliest baptism is 1690, which is too late for you, but there may be other family members that might interest you . I do not know if this is the earliest that the parish started recording or the earliest that ERO had access to.    Shirley in Florida ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dick Coleman" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, September 13, 2011 10:58:34 AM Subject: [Ess] John COLEMAN, c. 1671 Arkesden Hi, I’m new to this list & looking for a little help in tracking my 6 x gt grandfather John COLEMAN, believed to have been born in Arkesden.
