I am pretty sure he > was CoE.> 1) Do you have the death certificate and is there a private address for him on it? Even if he died in hospital, there should be an address for the informant, who may have been his widow or a son or daughter. If there's a private address, then this should tell you whereabouts in Ripon he lived and you should then be able to trace either the nearest CoE church or public cemetery. 2) Ripon isn't that big but you need to find out how many cemeteries and churches there are in the town. Enter "Ripon+cemeteries" into Google and you get the following website for Ripon Cemetery... http://www.harrogate.gov.uk/harrogate-1017 There are contact details and a link to ask them to search the burial records. The major CoE church is Ripon Cathedral but there are/were numerous other churches and chapelries in and around Ripon. Try and find a library that has the National Index of Parish Registers, Vol 11, part 3, Yorkshire West Riding (Ripon is now in North Yorkshire but was in the WR until 1974). This lists them all and tells you where the registers are. 3) Look at the website of the Ripon Historical Society and Family History Group at..... http://www.riponhistoricalsociety.org.uk/ This may be of help. -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." I do not have a date of death unfortunately but I am going to try Harrogate Council offices on the phone to-morrow and see if they hold any burial records for Ripon. I'll also try the local historical society. Regards, Nick
