Hi Carol, Seems funny he isn't on the 1841 or 1851 census. I wonder if the 1861 census information is correct? Have you been through the Ships lists for 1864/5? If there is a chance that Joseph was Baptised in Sheffield, there is a huge black hole from 1818 with a very few BT's entries for 1828 on the IGI. This time period has not been indexed (except at Sheffield Archives) or transcribed by anyone. So he wouldn't show up.
