    3. In the mid eighteen fifties, James Feiney married Elizabeth Dillon, born in Sligo, at Whitley, Yorkshire in 1847 . They had two sons, John and Richard while still at Whitley and maybe a daughter, Mary and another son, Thomas. They went to South Africa under a Settler's Scheme of some sort, stayed there a few years and were picked up at Capetown in 1865 by the British Government and taken to New Zealand under The Waikato Immigration Scheme. The dissatisfied S.A. migrants numbered enough to fill the passenger accommodation of five sailing ships. Their family members married and their descendants still live here - including mine, via my husband's family. As far as I have been able to find out, James Feiney was a miner - well, he died working for a gold mine in Thames, N.Z. twenty years later. Elizabeth, born in Sligo according to her N.Z. Death Cert., a goldmine of information on its own, her parents Dillon m. McCarty - father a weaver. Feiney is the way the name has always been spelt by them in N.Z., although there may be variations. I am wondering if James Feiney was born in Yorkshire? He was born c. 1826. They were Roman Catholics and I am wondering if that is why I can't find their marriage on the GRO? Am hoping to find out a bit more on this list....thanks to you all. Iris Page in Auckland, New Zealand.
