    1. [YORKSHIRE] Old Maps of Upper / Nether Poppleton

    3. Dear All, I have purchased a Cassini Historical Map Old Series (Map 105, York & Selby) 1:50,000 it dates from 1858. It is fairly useful and has Burlands House on Burlands Farm & Bur Field. However it's scale is rather small and you can't quite make out the properties in either Upper or Nether Poppleton. Does anyone have any suggestions of larger scale maps with more details of the local farms. I have been to the Borthwick Institute to see the TITHE map (1856 William Paver Upper & Nether Poppleton - ref: MAPS/68) which is 10 feet to 1 mile - I think that is a little too big! However somewhere between would be just fine. Many thanks. David Hawkin. _________________________________________________________________ Try Live.com - your fast, personalised homepage with all the things you care about in one place. http://www.live.com/?mkt=en-gb

    3. Hi David (we heard you the first time <vbg>) I would usually recommend old-maps site as they have the O/S old series maps http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ However they recently "improved " it (to maximise profit and minimise free use) Its down for me at present but if you try at another time you should find some zoomable maps of the area you seek (albeit a tad awkward to use) Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > Dear All, > > I have purchased a Cassini Historical Map Old Series (Map 105, York & > Selby) 1:50,000 it dates from 1858.
