Dear Brylin, and Dear Friends, . I was born in Ohio, and my Quaker ancestors (mother's side) came from Nottinghamshire, western Lincolnshire (Stow, Gainsboroough), and Facit, near Rochdale in Lancashire.. These are the surnames: BURTT, SMITH, ARMITAGE, and SPENCER. I also had a THOMPSON who left Rochdale for New Zealand in the mid-1800s or late 1800s. My recollection is that my THOMPSON was also from Facit, and his mother was Emma SPENCER. All good wishes, Mary Jane Phillips ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brylin Highton" <brylin@ihug.co.nz> To: <QUAKER-BRITISH-ISLES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2007 6:53 AM Subject: [Q-B-I] Roll call >I am interested in the Quaker family names below. > Brylin > > Surname RICHARDS > Date from 1600s > Date to 1900 > Monthly Meeting (if known) Landsend/Marazion MM, Austle MM > Place Marazion/Redruth, Isle of Man > County Code Cornwall > Associated names: TRESEDERN, BARON, NANCARROW, LIDGEY, WILLS, HIGMAN, > EDMONDS DAW, BRADY, SMITH, STEPHENS, NAFTEL(Channel Islands) > > Surname SMITH > Date from 1600s > Date to > Monthly Meetings (if known) Owstwicke, Hull > Places Aldbrough, Hull > County Code Yorkshire > Associated names: JOHNSON (want to track these -a sister-in-law married > Morley Steers), WILSON, MAIRE, HAINES > > Surname ARMITAGE > Date from 1750 > Date to recent > Monthly Meeting (if known) Nottingham > Place Nottingham, previously Selby, Yorkshire > County Code Nottinghamshire > Associated names: FOX, WILSON, JARRETT(keen to track this name further), > SMITH, BOWMAN, BURTT, WATERFALL > > Surname BAKER > Date from 1722 > Date to recent > Monthly Meeting (if known) > Place Islington, London to Ireland, then to Ontario,Canada, then back to > UK > County Code Middlesex > Related names: THOMPSON, WARING,( both Ireland) LEAVENS, BREWER, KING ( > all > Canada) MOSCRIP, ARMITAGE, BRAITHWAITE, PENMAN, NEILD, NOEL (all UK) > > > > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > QUAKER-BRITISH-ISLES-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
