    3. Hi Iris, Sculcoates is an area in Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire. If you look at the Genuki Site, you can learn more about places in England: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/index.html As for the lists of Irish people to Yorkshire, I dont think so, but maybe someone out there can correct me on this. Cheers Wendy Perth, West Aust IrisP wrote: >Wonder if any knowledgable person on this list would know if Irish folks >coming to reside in Yorkshire (mostly at Whitby) would have had to register >and so be on a list somewhere? >And is Soulcoates in Durham? Before the 1920s, somebody coming from anywhere in Ireland to England would not have had to register anywhere. It was all the same country and there would be no more need to register than there would be if you were arriving from another English county. Since the early 1920s, the situation is the same for people in Northern Ireland, but the rest of Ireland is a separate country (Eire, or the Republic of Ireland) and movement from one to the other would count as immigration. So there would be no official record if this happened before the 1920s, and there might be if it happened after that. Kim --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail is the world's favourite email.
