He was becoming the apprentice (in Leeds) for a William and Henry Potts, and i was wondering if anyone had any information about these two men and what they did. The indenture also mentions the name John Carr, but i think he was simply a witness. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi I wonder if this could be connected to your family Christine William Potts was born in December 1809 and was apprenticed to Samuel Thompson, a Darlington clockmaker. In 1833, at the age of 24, William moved to Pudsey near Leeds, to set up his own business. Initially the business was primarily concerned with domestic timepieces, however this gradually expanded into the manufacture and repair of public clocks. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <ENG-YORKSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 20, 2007 2:54 PM Subject: [YORKSHIRE] William and Henry Potts (and John Carr) > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: soupy_twist > Surnames: Harrison, Potts, Carr > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/14772/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I have an apprenticeship indenture dated 1844, belonging to an ancestor of > mine called Benjamin Harrison. > He was becoming the apprentice (in Leeds) for a William and Henry Potts, > and i was wondering if anyone had any information about these two men and > what they did. > The indenture also mentions the name John Carr, but i think he was simply > a witness. > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
