Hull seems a fair way from Whitby, where I last found them. In 1853 and 1854 they registered two children there. Between then and 1860 they and their four children born in Y'shire migrated to South Africa on some Settlers' scheme and disappeared from sight to their Yorkshire families. In 1865 they were brought from South Africa with other disaffected families on five sailing ships paid for by the British Govt. on what is known as The Waikato Immigration Scheme. But by then the Dillons and other family in Whitby, where they had last been located, had completely lost track of them. Now we have been able to get in touch with them via this list and the wonderful efforts of June Wray and Joyce and a couple of others, whom I thank wholeheartedly, and reunite these families after over 150 years. This feels so wonderful. As a grandmother and great grandmother to some of their Dillon/Feiney (Fanney, Feaney) descendants I can't help but understand how happy some of those earlier parents and family would feel if they knew they are all coming closer to each other after so many generations...well, family is all to me as it is to most mothers. I looked at the url you included and found a photo of the established St. Hilda church - and would you believe, in the foreground is a white Citroen exactly the same as our own? Coincidence is a peculiar thing? Thanks, Ann. Iris Page on a beautiful soft winter day in Auckland, New Zealand. > Hi Iris, > > Sculcoates is an area in Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire.
