I have the CD's & Ancestry. 1841 census index on our site. So you can check yourself.... Re birth registration....... Bear in mind though civil registration started in July 1837 it did NOT become mandatory to register them until 1875. We have just had a thread on "Sheffield Indexers" Forum about the GRO indexes which are being re indexed by SDFHS who have found that if they looked at the number of baptisms for the Parish Church and the few other churches there could be as much as a 40% difference with births to baptisms. It was noted that as folks had always used the baptism as a form of registration they just carried on in the old way. Knowing Yorkshire folks (which includes me) they wouldn't want to pay out for the baptisms and the registration. (Or did they only pay if late?) over the 42 days. We have the first 16years of the New Registers from St Marie's RC Church on line that you could search as well. All free by the way. LOL.
