I can assure you it doesn't - it only makes it harder to read! Please try and post future messages in the conventional manner, i.e. in lower case except where caps are necessary at the beginning of a sentence and for proper nouns. Furthermore, it would help people to try and help you if you gave us some more specific information. How old was Edward Hurlstone in 1871 and 81, when was he born and where? Do you have the marriage certificate? If so, what was his age shown on that and who was his father? You cannot seriously expect others to help you with a census search without this basic information. If he was on a whaling ship, then there are specialist resources in Hull with whaling records that you should be able to find for yourself with Google. -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Hi Roy, I agree it is harder to read all capital letters. I use capitals for surnames to make them stand out but I am a touch typist not a 2 finger typist so it is possible that Alan didn't realise and found it easier to type in caps. Alan, I would have typed "My grandfather (Edward HURLSTONE) married a lady from Hull Sarah Lavinia SHAW, maiden name RAITHBY and then the rest in lower case. It is so much easier to read in a hurry and identify if the family is one we have some information on.
