Hello, I have had a break from my family history research as my health hasn't been very good. A cousin who i haven't seen for about 50 years contacted me this week and it gave me the incentive to get my research papers out and shake the dust from them --lol ! Please can some kind person who has time, look up a family on the 1851 or 1861 census for me. The family are WILLIAM SOLKELL (or SALKELL) and his wife JANE +three children --JOSEPH born 1844 bap Feb 25th at a place called Cliff Hind House, Fawcett, North Yorks (on the edge of County Durham) ELIZABETH (my Ancestor) bap 1845 Cliff Hind House, Hutton Magna and PAULE bap 1853 Lowfield, Hutton Magna. I have been researching my family for a few years now and have tried in vane to find the marriage of WILLIAM SOLKELL and JANE (unknown) without success and thought the 1851 census might give some clues. The surname is a bit of a problem as it was spelt SOKELL on the marriage cert of my Grt grandmother ELIZABETH but her bapt gives it as SALKELL ! Elizabeth's father WILLIAM was a Husbandsman of Cliff Hind House, Yorkshire I have also found an earlier childs bap on the IGI that could be of this couple -- WILLIAM SOKEL bap at Adel, (near Leeds) Yorkshire, 19th July 1835 son of WILLIAM and JANE SOKEL. I would be greatfull for any info that can be found. Regards Carole Robinson _________________________________________________________________ New Windows 7: Find the right PC for you. Hello, i hope you don't mind but i am asking for help again ! >From census info that i was kindly given last week i found my 2nd grt grandmother Jane (possibly Ponder) who was born abt 1810 at Scargill, Yorkshire. I am confused as to where to look for the baptism records for this place. I have looked on the present day map and it lies just south of Barnard Castle, but this is in County Durham ? I have also been trying to find any records for the surname of Ponder on the IGI around the area of Scargill, Fawcett and Hutton Magna but its not a very common Spelling/Name ! I have found most of them are from the south of the country. I thought i might find some more info on Jane's family if i could find them on the census. There is a marriage in Teesdale 1839 which fits with a Jane Ponder and William SALKELD/ Sokell. I have the census info for William and Jane Salkeld and family including my grt grandmother Elizabeth for 1841,1851 and 1861 - --Elizabeth was born 1845 and baptised at Eppleby, North Yorkshire as was her brothers Joseph and Paul. The family moved about alot sometimes living in Yorkshire and other times across the border in Durham. Its proving difficult becouse the parishes they lived in were on the border between Yorkshire and Durham and also because of boundry changes so i don't know where to start to look for parish info. Any help would be apreciated Many thanks Carole Robinson _________________________________________________________________ Have more than one Hotmail account?
