Hello Roy: Thanks for that info. I'll look into following up on your suggestion. Actually I was favouring the Hannah PRESTON age 21 in 1851 working as a servant in Headingly, Leeds. She gives her birthplace as Yeadon and if I've got her correct in 1841 her father is James. If I remember correctly the Hannah you suggest gives Guiseley as her birthplace. I realize that Yeadon is quite often quoted as part of Guiseley so you can see my hesitation at claiming one of them without more info. And unfortunately naming patterns don't help as both James and John are given names for some of the grandchildren. Why don't you e-mail them (address on their website) and ask if someone will look at the registers for you? They will very likely charge a fee but hopefully less than the cost of a certificate. Nothing lost by asking, anyway. Personally, of the nine Hannah Prestons listed at Otley registration district in the 1851 census I can see only one who looks about the right age to have been married in 1854. This is Hannah Preston, 23, unmarried, daughter of John, cloth manufacturer, and Hannah Preston at Mount Pleasant, Guiseley. The others are all either married or too young. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
