    3. Lance: By a strange coincidence there is a second Frederick Pickard - deserter On Ancestry.ca Historical records - British and German Deserters, Dischargees, and POW's Who May Have Remained in Canada and the USA, 1774-1783. Part One and Two - British-American Genealogical Research, Monograph Number 9, Part 2 PICKARD, Frederick deserted 19 Jun 1778 (P 216) I am assuming that (P 216) is a page number in the so called Monograph. I know nothing else about this and because the date precedes the birth of your chap there is likely no connection. His biography was written a over a century ago, for the celebration of the centennial of Ottawa County, Ohio. Longtime residence of Ottawa County had their biographies submitted by family members (i.e., children). No one in the family knew that Frederick PICKARD was a British Army Deserter. I was able to trace him back to Quebec because of the birth of his first child and found his marriage to Mary McGREGOR at the Garrison in Quebec. I ordered is army record and all I have is a muster roll that lists him as a deserter. The British archives statement that they do not maintain records on deserters. So the only thing I have to go on is that he was born 04 Jun 1799 in Yorkshire and that he served with the 68th Regment of Foot Infantry. 3. Interesting...I wonder would the regiment he was assigned to be any indication about where he may have come from? For instance, men assigned to the 100th Ohio Infantry came from Ottawa County, Ohio. My Frederick PICKARD was assigned to the 68th Regiment of Foot.
