Would someone have access to the parish records for St John's Church in Yeadon and could look-up some marriage details for me? John CLAYTON married Hannah PRESTON in 1854 at St John's Church, Yeadon (From Yorkshire BMD). The marriage was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1854 (from GRO Indexes) In the 1841 and 1851 census there are two or three possible Hannah PRESTON's that could be the one I am looking for and I am hoping that the parish entry for the marriage might mention a father or witness or occupation that I can potentially link and thus identify which Hannah is the one. She died in late 1861. As these are not my direct ancestors I am reluctant to purchase the marriage certificate which I know will have her father's name. The LDS church has not filmed the marriage entries for this particular church which was a chapel up until the late 1840's. Any help would be much appreciated. Mel Smith Whitby, Ontario, Canada

Why don't you e-mail them (address on their website) and ask if someone will look at the registers for you? They will very likely charge a fee but hopefully less than the cost of a certificate. Nothing lost by asking, anyway. Personally, of the nine Hannah Prestons listed at Otley registration district in the 1851 census I can see only one who looks about the right age to have been married in 1854. This is Hannah Preston, 23, unmarried, daughter of John, cloth manufacturer, and Hannah Preston at Mount Pleasant, Guiseley. The others are all either married or too young. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
