I do have the marriage certificate for EMILY JANE SPENCE & ROBERT FOSTER , dated 8-10-1875, EMILY is aged 18, and this gives her birth year of 1857, this is the same birth year that is stated on all the census records that I have found relating to her, I cannot find her on the B.M.D. index for 1857, the only one close was for EMILY LUCY SPENCE, so I thought (wrongly) that she may have been entered wrong. On the marriage certificate it states that her father was JAMES SPENCE a Watchmaker. I have just spoken to a elderly member of the family and she told me that EMILY was born Illegitimate, the result of EMILY,S mother who was working in service and the owner of the house where she worked, the house was HOLLITON or HOLLERTON HALL, I have no idea where that is.
