I am new to searching and not totally computer literate. I am now on Ancestry.com. My daughters gave it to me for my 66th birthday this past May. My great grandfather was John Creaven and the date of death you provided (1930)is about right. He had 4 children, John(Johnny who died at age 11 between 1870s/1880s, William(Uncle Bill), Thomas(Uncle Tom), and Mary Cecelia who was my grandmother born about 1894-96 and died 2-21-69. My great grandfather married a Mary Foy from Philadelphia who died giving birth to my grandmother. My great grandfather did have a brother (either Timothy or Patrick) not sure of the correct name, that arrived about 1859 and settled in Washington, DC and I believe my great grandfather arrived about 1861. They both lived in Foggy Bottom (lower Georgetown) and my great grandfather opened a saloon called Creavens at 26th & K Street, the family home was next door. I ! have a picture taken in the 1880s of him, several of my Uncles in front of the saloon and my great grandmother standing in the doorway. As a child, my grandmother would have visits from her cousins, Monsignor Martin Murphy, Bridget Creaven, and Annie Cannon. Msg. Murphy retired back to Ireland, and the last letter I received from him was in 1966; at the time his address was Kilbeg, Headford, Co. Galway. Bridget stayed here in the US and Annie Cannon (not sure if she was a cousin or not) went back to Ireland with Msg. Murphy. I have been trying to find extended family off and on since 2006. I did get in touch with Beth Creaven, whose grandfather Leo Creaven was my grandmother's cousin as well. I had not seen Beth or her sister since we were children. That part of the family lived in Virginia and have not stayed in touch, but Leo and his wife lived several blocks from us. As a child, I would sit with my grandmother and her cousins during their visits and they would speak Gael! ic. I remember this so clearly and once a year Msg Murphy would come a nd bless the house. My grandmother married a Ruppert McNeill who came from Scotland, who died in 1933. My Mother Elizabeth died in 1977 and my Uncle John (Jack) McNeill is still alive at age 88. I married into the Sheridan family from Northern Kentucky and have 24 sisters & brothers in law as well as close to 80 nieces and nephews. My husband was one of 14 children. Anyway, I am so glad to have found a relative, I do hope we can keep in touch. I have not been to Ireland, but cannot wait to go for a visit with my daughters. I am on Facebook.com under Marcia Sheridan and my E-mail address is Lacelady00@gmail.com. Home phone is 301-933-5045 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
