Illegitimate children were liable to become a burden on the local parishoners so the Church Wardens etc would try to identify the Father and either get him to make a one off payment or something like 6d a week until the child was of working age (like 14). You will need to go to the local Record Centre to look up the relevant records; which will probably be on microfilm. More chance for the earlier dates than later in the 1800s.
