He was the son of Robert Gilpin who was born in Whitehaven, son of Henry Gilpin. I have Sarah marrying Robert Holmes and in 1901 I have her living in Charles Street, Colne. Whether you are still looking at family connections or not, I don't know, but I am more or less certain tht we have one. My Grandmother was Mary Margaret Gilpin who was orphaned aged 5 and brought up by her mother's sister. The family moved to Kendal, where she died in 1932, unfortunately without my ever knowing her.
