Author: diamondlifestyle Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/15645/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Can anyone help? I'm trying to trace me GG Granfather John Edward Rodgers [sic] SAVILLE b. 1856 @ Myton. I can find no record of his parents as on the censuses he's living with his grandparents Edward Ryley and Hannah nee Saville. I've found some records where she's listed as Hannah Burgan, but on her marriage to Edward her father's name was John Saville, which leads me to believe she may have had some illigitimate children. I can find no record of a Burgan-Saville marriage, however she had 3 children, Charles (b Selby 1833), Elizabeth (b Selby 1835) and Ann (b Selby 1837) all with the surname Saville (plus a daughter from her marriage to Edward called Hannah Ryley b Selby 1840). I have found the record of John's marriage to Ellen Ruth Walker (nee Smith) in Skirbeck, Lincs, 1893, where he lists his father's name as HENRY, but I can't find Henry Saville anywhere in relation to the family! Any help would be appreciated, I've looked in all the usual places (IGI, FreeREG, UK BMD etc) Thanks! Kate Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Unfortunately I don't have the death certificate. I found numerous other sites quoting that date, but maybe I'm wrong. I have tracked down most of those Fawcetts, including the ship they came to Canada on, and where most are buried here in Ontario. It's just these few that I can't seem to find. I'm not up to speed in searching England either. Is your friend connected to Mary Vasey? Just curious. Thanks for all your help and I'm open to any/all suggestions you have. Thus it would seem that your John FAWCETT may have been buried in Brompton or Snainton. You can probably find an email address for them on their web site or you could phone them on 44 1723 354 393. The local Family History Societies have recorded many of the Memorial Inscriptions and may be able to help with a photo. Scarborough will be within the interest of the East Yorkshire FHS. Author: diamondlifestyle Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/15637.5.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Julie, Parish records are pretty much at the mercy of the parish clark who recorded the baptisms, marriages and burials for each individual church. Depending on a huge number of factors, there can be any amount of information on them, so if for example the person concerned was well-known in the church / parish they may well have written an essay all about them, but then again they may just put in one line. For every record you find that lists an entire person's family history and circumstance, there are probably a thousand that just say 'John Smith buried 12 Nov' etc. Equally, parish records are at the mercy of time. If you consider how many churches there are in the UK, and how far back these records go, it's a miracle any survive at all, and for every one that does, there are probably a dozen that haven't. That makes searching the records very hit-and-miss, but where you do find the ones appropriate to your family, chances are you'll get a lot of good information from them, as families didn't move around very much. I've had a look at the records I've got, I've not got Kirk Leavington at all I'm afraid, and my Stokesley records end at 1750, which is just too early for your marriage, or William's birth. Your best bet is the North Riding records office, which is where the original records are held, as for every record that gets transcribed and makes it online, there are a hundred sitting getting dusty somewhere! Good luck Kate Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Following on from the information you gave me i think i have managed to locate where & when Hannah's parents were married. Would you be able to see if any details of their parents are recorded? Hannah's parents were William Pearson(could be recorded as Peirson) & Elizabeth Dickinson, they were married in Stokesley Yorkshire on 18 May 1789. Also would the record of Hannah's marriage to John Simpson show the name etc of his father? They were married in Kirklevington,Yorkshire on 20 August 1820. Thanks again for your help.
