Post 1837 are you aware of the UK BMD project? http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/index.php?form_action=local They have a dedicated Yorkshire search engine, although they also cover other counties. Another couple you can try are FreeREG (pre-1837 - to see if they've transcribed your parish type it into the 'place' box) http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl Post 1837 you can also try the FreeBMD project http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl Good luck! His father is said to have been Charles Wilkinson, although I have found no source for that other than a biographical note about John. Author: diamondlifestyle Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/15637.9.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I'll do this a parish at a time: WITHENWICK I assume I've found the 6 baptisms (Anne, John, Bryan, Francis, Mary & Sarah), also there was an Anne Beadall born to Francis Beadall, bap 23/09/1750, possibly a relation? Aside from these, there are no Beadal (or any variant thereof) marriages recorded in this parish for the years 1712-1837; nor christenings between 1813-1874, so they must have been born and married outside the parish, with the exception of this one family. SIGGLESTHORNE I've found 3 Co(u)ltman marriages in this parish: John Coltman m Sarah Beadall 03/12/1737 *I assume this one is of particular interest to you* Ann Coultman m John Snow 28/08/1769 Elizabeth Coltman m Thomas Dennis 06/03/1742 There were no Co(u)ltman marriages in the period 1813-1836 in this parish, nor any baptisms in the period 1732-1812. I have however found the following baptisms for the period 1813-1850: Francis Coltman bap 03/02/1739 (father John Coltman) Henry Coltman bap 26/06/1743 (father John Coltman) Ann Coltman bap 30/03/1746 (father John Coltman) John Coltman bap 27/08/1748 (father John Coltman) I would assume from the gap between Francis and Henry that a little Coltman probably died around 1741, but unfortunately I've not got the burial records for this parish to confirm that. Again as there were no earlier baptisms or marriages they must have been from outside the parish originally. Kate Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. According to the IGI Samuel BEEDEL/BEDAL/BEADAL/BEADALL had 6 children baptised in Withernwick between 1712 and 1720. I wondered if there was a mention of the mother's name or perhaps Samuel Beedel's marriage in around 1710 or his birth? Also, the records for Sigglesthorne. John COLTMAN/COULTMAN married in Sigglesthorne in 1737 and Elizabeth COLTMAN (possibly his sister) married in Sigglesthorne in 1742. I wondered if there was a mention of parents names or perhaps they were baptised there. Thank you for your time. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you go to www.yorkshirebmd.info and use the 'search' pulldown under BIRTHS you can enter the same information as me and see for youself. Thomas Dobson was b. Jan 1798, Adwick Le Street(?). Both Thomas and Charles and the rest of Thomas's family came to the USA around 1830. Author: BryanHoggarth Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/15642.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Nancy >From FreeBMD the probable record in the death indexes for your John FAWCETT is this one Deaths Sep Qtr 1860 Fawcett John Scarbro 9d 174 Of the free sources of info in England FreeBMD is something you should use. Apart from having almost all civil registrations of Births Marriages and Deaths from when the started in Sep Qtr of 1837 to 1920 the site also has a link as to how you order a certificate online from the central UK office at Liverpool. The certificate will cost you £9,25 and that will tell you when and where he died and who registered the death. The September Qtr covers any death registered in July, August September in the Scarborough District. Given the info from Geoff I expect this entry must be the one who was buried at Scarborough in July. There does not seem to be any other deaths in the area for John FAWCETT as you can see yourself on FreeBMD. Thus your date of 1st Septmeber seems like it might be wrong. Maybe someone took the entry of September Quarter and just stuck in a date of 1st September - then several other people just copied it without querying the source. If you do not want to get a copy of the certificate you could try a query on the East Riding of Yorkshire Board - though its a bit of a toss up as to whether the North Riding Board may be better. You should also check out the ERY FHS web site. They may have facilities for chat or looking things up. At least you can see what documents they have published. If you can find an MI for John it may also tell you when Mary died and was born. Some years back there was some discussion about people doing Photos of Gravestones in Scarborugh cemeteries - do a search for Scarborough Graves and it should find the discussion. Also as I first suggested; get in touch with the Scraborough Cremetorium & Cemeteries Office. Geoff VASEY said he was related to George VASEY the botanist but did not mention Mary VASEY. There were quite a few on them about in that area and that time. Bryan GLS. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
