    1. [YORKSHIRE] Fw: Yorkshire Parish Registers - an appeal
    2. JANICE WOOD
    3. Hello all, The Yorkshire Parish Register Society began transcribing registers in 1899, since when it has published 177 volumes of printed parish registers. Although the society's name has now changed to Yorkshire Parish Register Section, or YPRS, and now comes under the banner of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society, its aims are still the same as they were 111 years ago. Some publications are now available on CD, as well as in books. Because they rely on volunteers to transcribe the parish registers, and this has to be done at the archive repositories, it is a slow process. All their work has to be thoroughly checked before publication, which also takes a great deal of time. If you visit archives in Yorkshire regularly, and could possibly spare a little time to help with either transcribing or checking, this would be much appreciated. Also, if you have spare time, and access to a computer, some inputting of transcripts is needed. This year, the section has published registers for Kirkburn, 1686-1837 and Tickhill (Volume 2) 1674 - 1771. All the YPRS publications are listed on www.yorkshireparishregisters.com. Most of the CD publications will be available at the Hull Family History Fair on 16th October, at Batley on 13th November and at the Milton Keynes Family History Show, Bletchley Park, on the 14th November. If you are attending any of these events and would like one of the books, please email info@yorkshireparishregisters.com The Section is working hard to ensure that all their work is accurate, for the benefit of family historians now and in the future. Author: diamondlifestyle Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/15637.10.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Jill, I can see why you're stuck, this one is a nightmare! I can't find the parents' marriage, or the kids' baptisms. I've got a possible baptism for William, 07 Feb 1773 @ Abingdon (son of Henry & Elizabeth Fisher); this is the only William Fisher in Abingdon within 10 years of the dates you gave me! And I'm not convinced it's your William as there is a William Henry Fisher born to William Fisher in 1838 and the mother's name is given as Elizabeth, which doesn't match at all. I've also scoured the Tickhill records and Elizabeth's baptism is nowhere to be found. Is it possible they weren't CofE? that would explain why church records are proving so difficult to find... Also, is it possible that Rebecca was a second wife, and that the children have a different mother? Of course if we could find the parish records of the baptisms that would answer that question; but it could explain why there doesn't seem to be a record of their marriage. Sorry I couldn't be of more help :-( Kate Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [YORKSHIRE] Yorkshire Children's Orthopaedic Hospital
    2. JANICE WOOD
    3. Hello all, I have been asked by the Kirkbymoorside History Group to tell you about their latest publication. Following the huge success of the book "Adela Shaw and the Yorkshire Children's Orthopaedic Hospital, Kirkbymoorside" earlier this year, a new book, of pictures and memories from some of the hundreds of people who worked there or were patients there, "Smile....!" has just arrived. As the hospital treated children from all over Yorkshire, these books have proved enormously popular, all over the county, and are now made available online at www.ryedalefamilyhistory.org Regards, Janice Wood No virus found in this outgoing message. I'm not actually local to the area at all, so I googled Eastby and got a little town near Skipton. However, when I looked on Genuki Eastby doesn't exist as an independent parish, nor is it listed on the IGI. A possibility is looking in the Skipton or Bolton Abbey records as they were the nearest, however in parish records I find the reference to where a person is 'from' usually relates to their parish, not necessarily their town, and the only parish I can find with a similar name is Easby, just outside Richmond. The Genuki page for Easby is http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/NRY/Easby/index.html Kate Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The only way to be sure you're on the correct trail though is, as previously stated, to work backwards ordering certificates. I wonder if you can help me with a brick wall!! In 1841 and 1851 census for Sheffield I have William Fisher born 1776 to 1781 in Abingdon Berkshire. His wife is Rebecca born about 1780 in Sunderland. I do not have her surname and cannot find a marriage for them at all. I think they had 3 children, Elizabeth Fisher b. abt 1816 in Tickhill, John Bower Fisher b. about 1818 in Sheffield and Joseph Fisher b. 1825 Sheffield. Joseph appears in the Sheffieldindexers website but not the other 2. I found it odd that John was called John Bower and did look to see if that was Rebecca's last name but drew a blank. Do you have anything for a marriage for William and Rebecca? Thanks so much Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
