Hello all, The Ryedale Family History Group meeting is on tomorrow evening, the 20th October, at the WRVS Centre, Pickering, at 7pm for 7.30. Two speakers, Roger and Chris Sewell, from the Yorkshire Ridings Society, are going to tell us what the Society is all about and what they do. The Ridings do still exist, even though the administrative borders have been moved. If you can't make it to this meeting, look out for the report in "Ryedale Roots," the quarterly journal of the Ryedale Family History Group Regards Janice Wood No virus found in this outgoing message. Hello Gill http://www.theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/search/index.jsp has 8 Tripp entries from 1569 to 1830. So it is worth looking at. It is also worth while searching the Oxford and Cambridge Alumni as there is a good chance he went to one or the other. Peter, for some reason the year 1835 comes to mind though for Crockfords I'm not sure how accurate that is. Hi Gill There are quite a few hits on Ancestry and in the Times including his Obituary in 1879 (I think you have his death year a wee bit wrong) His entry in the Probate Calendar shows he left under £16,000 There are also the entries from Crockfords on Ancestry I will forward a few bits and pieces Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Listers, > > I'm a newcomer to this list but a long time subscriber to other lists. > > The Revd James TRIPP was the Rector of All Saints church in Spofforth in > the early 1840s - he was born in Petworth Sussex abt 1788. Hello Gill As your subject was a cleric have you considered consulting Crockford's Directory ? I am not quite sure of the year of first publication of the Directory but with some luck it should give details of secondary and under and post graduate qualifications. There is certainly a copy in Bradford Central Library - perhaps someone could do a look up for you. Peter Wood in the Isle of Man
Hi Nuala, Peter and Judy Many thanks to you all for your suggestions and sites - much appreciated. Nuala - great site - it has really helped me in finding out about James' early life which had eluded me before. Judy - James TRIPP's daughter Sophia Mary Georgiana TRIPP married William SINCLAIR, the son of Sir John SINCLAIR - noted in Burke's Peerage. Again many thanks, Regards Gill
Hi Nivard, Thanks so much for all the images you sent regarding James TRIPP - I had found him on Ancestry but didn't think of the Times! My apologies - you're right - he did died in 1879; I had the dates mixed up. You've given me lots to think about - much appreciated! Regards Gill
Gill this is of interest to me because I have the surname Tripp in my McCaw lineage, Hastings County, Ontario. What is very odd is that my Mordens are from Yorkshire not the McCaws. Do you have the Tripp lineage in Canada? They fought in the Revolutionary War and settled in Prince Edward Co. Email me privately if you like. Susan

Hi, I had a look for you and there is certainly a family name TRIPP on this site. As you didn't mention the daughter's name I couldn't tell if she was there. _http://thepeerage.com/p18355.htm#i183542_ (http://thepeerage.com/p18355.htm#i183542) There are two reverend Tripp's, father and son and I think one may be yours. Hi Roy Thanks for your suggestion and yes I have already looked for him on Google; while there are several references to him I could find nothing to 'fill' in his life. Perhaps I missed something. I'm hoping that as his time as Rector in Spofforth was 'memorable' enough that something of his history would have been written about - perhaps in an historical publication or newspaper. Regards Gill
Do you have any GEORGE RAYNOR,born uk,lived in Willmington Deleware.Carol.
Hi Listers, I'm a newcomer to this list but a long time subscriber to other lists. The Revd James TRIPP was the Rector of All Saints church in Spofforth in the early 1840s - he was born in Petworth Sussex abt 1788. I have been unable to find out much about his early life but think he came from a wealthy family - possibly third son - as there is a Tripps Hill is close to Petworth. I know he 'rebuilt' All Saints Church (1847) without permission and left 16,000. pounds when he died in 1892 and is mentioned in Burke's Peerage as one of his daughters married a Baronet. Any more information about him would be appreciated. Thanks Gill in Canada
