Author: BryanHoggarth Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/15673.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It is unfortunate that the standard IGI coverage for baptisms at Yafforth only goes up to 1812. Maybe this "LDS beta search" may help. However if you look at the NBIv2 you get two burials at Yafforth, All Saints: 22 Sep 1824 John DEIGHTON age 37 4 Jan 1841 Chrstopher DEIGHTON age 17 In the 1861 census George DEIGHTON is a lodger at Crook and his age is given as 37 which would make him born 1823/24 So John may be the father of George and Christopher a brother. It would be worth checking for a Gravestone; though a widow with young children to look after is unlikely to have wasted any money on a Gravestone. You can see the church at Yafforth on Streeview. Author: BryanHoggarth Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/15673.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Lisa I though why not just get a copy of the marriage certificate for George and Isabella which will give you the fathers. However I could not find the marriage in FreeBMD. The reason becomes obvious from the 1871 census and you can now apply for the marriage certificate. 1871 census RG10-4937 Folio 60 Addison Street, Crook, Crook & Billy Row, DUR George DEIGHTON Head Mar 45 Labourer YKS Yaforth Isabella do Wife Mar 43 DUR Harperley Frances J RAWE (RAINE) Stepson Unm 20 Blacksmith DUR do William do Stepson 19 Labourer DUR do Elizabeth J do Stepdaur 16 DUR Crook Margaret A DEIGHTON Daur 6 Scholar DUR do George A RAINE Stepson 17? Labourer DUR do Sarah DEIGHTON Daur 4 Scholar DUR do Thomas do Son 11 mo DUR do So George probably married not Elizabeth ATKINSON but Eliazbeth RAWE or RAINE in c. 1863. FreeBMD will probably show the earlier marriage of Isabella and also she could be found on the earlier censuses. FreeBMD has Marriages Dec 1863 Deighton George Auckland 10a 238 Fell Margaret Auckland 10a 238 RAINE Isabella Auckland 10a 238 RAINO Isabella Auckland 10a 238 Ross William Auckland 10a 238 Just ask for the marriage of George DEIGHTON and don't mention Isabella so they do not "bounce" the request due to spelling not being quite right. Author: suecoombs115 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/15673.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, There is a George Deighton shown on the 1851 census living at The Grange, Yafforth as a farm labourer. In the same household there is a widow named Ann Deighton b 1795 Carthorpe, Yorkshire employed as a House Servant. Obviously one can't assume this is his mother but it is a possiblity. I have also found her on the 1841 census at Yafforth Grange, Danby Wiske as a Female Servant also in the household is a Thomas Deighton b 1816 Yorkshire an agricultural labourer who may/may not be her son. Food for thought but not proof! Best wishes, Sue Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
