    1. [YORKSHIRE] YKS Surnames List - ISPs - IMPORTANT
    2. If any of you are using BLUEBOTTLE.COM, please note that I do not believe in sending in my email address to some entity that will confirm that I am not a spam outfit and be classified as an "allowed" email address. This applies to both my personal and YKS surnames list mail. Bluebottle is just one of the ISPs that insist on this. I have received a couple of emails from bluebottle subscribers, so if you wish to submit a surname, you will have to use a different email address. Do not insist, as it is a matter of principle. Thank you everyone for paying attention to this. 3. Dear all, I am new to this list as I have just discovered that a branch of my family is from Yorkshire (Halifax area). On the 1861 census I see the widow Elizabeth JACKMAN as Inn Keeper of the White House Inn, Bramley Lane, Hipperholme. Despite extensive googling I cannot find any more information on this Inn. In case anybody out there has any more information or hints where I could find it (for some areas there are lists of historic pubs), I would be happy to hear from you. Thanks and regards, Andrea

    3. Hello Wendy Most of my info is from word-of-mouth from older family members who are no longer! I was told Charles Coles' father was also Charles and that his mother was Ellen Cohan and that he was born in Stockoton-on-Tees on 9 November 1876. I have his Death Certificate on which it states he died at the age of 58 on 2/2/1828 which would put his birth year at 1870. I have a Birth Certificate for Charles' 1st Child Nellie Romany Coles born in Queensland on 4 October 1900 with the mother listed as Nellie Watson. She was my g grandmother but we knew her as Millicent Cecilia Drury. Their 2nd child, Nellie (the 1st Nellie died in 1901) born in Bendigo in 1901 has my g grandmother listed as Ellen Ruth Druary. On these births Charles Coles has ages varying from 28 to 42 in the space of 2-3 years! I cannot find any trace of him, his parents, her parents, any marriages, divorces - nothing. The only other thing I found from back then was a Memoriam Notice in the Bendigo Times in 1908 in memory of their infant daughter Nellie Romany from her grieving parents Mr & Mrs Charles Coles (professionally known as Madame Lee)!!!! He is listed as a showman, a travelling optician and a theatrical agent. He went on to a second marriage and when he died in 1928 he was living in Culcairn. What an elusive pair. If they were alive I'd strangle them!! Only joking. If you find anything about this person you be deserving of the Victoria Cross, Good Conduct Medal and a gold star!!!! Thanks for any help at all, Marcelle in WA -----Original Message----- From: eng-yorkshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-yorkshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Wendy Sent: Friday, 27 April 2007 12:52 AM To: eng-yorkshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [YORKSHIRE] COLES/COHAN Hi Marcelle, If you were to tell us what documents you got your Charles COLES age and parents from, it may help us to track him down. 2. Paul, Could you look up the church records for the following please???? My g gpa Charles Pearce Sylvester SMITH b29Jul1830 at Kingston - maybe Kingston-on-Hull. There was a Charles Pears SMITH on IGI b~1831 son of William SMITH & Mary PEARS. Their other kids were: John b 1821 Leeds William b 1823 Leeds Thomas b 2Nov1825 Leeds Richard b 2Aug1829 Kingston-on-Hull John Pears b 1830 Kingston-on-Hull William Pears b 1834 Kingston-on-Hull John b 1837 O & Charles Pears b~1831 Kingston-on-Hull Well I thought I'd found the right one till LDS snaffled them & took them to USA. <sigh> Kingston-on-Hull was I think St Mary's. Maybe the church records will give his whole birthdate. My Charles was a Master Mariner who married & settled in Sydney, NSW. Thanks Paul. Cheers.
