    1. [YORKSHIRE] roll call: Charles Pearce Sylvester SMITH
    2. I'm still trying to prove/disprove if my Charles Pearce Sylvester SMITH b 29Jul1830 Kingston was the Charles Pears SMITH born at Kingston-on-Hull abt1831. Everything fits beautifully except this family got highjacked by LDS & taken to America. My Charlie was a master mariner, he married in Sydney & had 6 sons there one of them being my gpa. I have lots of shipping records from around Aus between 1859 & 1882 as master but I'm still looking for info of his earlier years. Cheers. Anne from lovely Cairns, Aus.

    1. [YORKSHIRE] Yorksgen at York in July
    2. Janice Wood
    3. Morning folks, Only 6 more weeks until we meet up in York again for our mini YORKSGEN meeting 8th - 22nd July. The house is booked. Only a small group this year: fully booked the first week (10 people) and 4 rooms still available for the week starting Sunday the 15th July. Open to all subscribers who'd like a week or part week in York for research / holiday. Basically: it's a chance to use cheap accommodation provided by the University of York to meet up with old friends, meet new friends (all interested in genealogy !!) and get some research done. The Borthwick is 10 mins walk away. For those of you who are new to the list: you can read more about it here: http://www.yorksgen.com/ Jane LACHS and Janice WOOD PS. This is the "MINI" YORKSGEN. Which means we won't be organizing coach trips, lunches and dinners. If that's want you want then start saving up for next year :-) After saying that: we do often join up in groups of 2 or more to visit the archives elsewhere in Yorkshire.

    1. [YORKSHIRE] William and Isabella FENTON and Mary YALE
    2. Paul Ellis
    3. Hi Listers, I am looking for any information about the above family from the Leeds and Ripon area. I believe William FENTON to be a coal owner and millionaire, Isabella (nee STEELE) is his wife and Mary his daughter. Mary was born in 1800 and died in 1886 and married Richard YALE in 1819. By the time of the 1841 census Mary and her mother were both widows. Mary was, unfortunately, classed variously as an imbecile, lunatic, idiot and, in some of the documents from her solicitors,. As a person of unsound mind. I would like to find out if Mary was always like this, if not then what made her this way? Are there any records out there that may help me? If the family were rich as I suspect would they feature in any newspapers of the time. Mary was not an ancestor of mine but her story interests me and I would like to find out more. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Paul in not so sunny Bulwell, Nottingham

I was born in Ohio, and my Quaker ancestors (mother's side) came from Nottinghamshire, western Lincolnshire (Stow, Gainsboroough), and Facit, near Rochdale in Lancashire.. These are the surnames: BURTT, SMITH, ARMITAGE, and SPENCER. I also had a THOMPSON who left Rochdale for New Zealand in the mid-1800s or late 1800s. I have a picture of Elizabeth[ your great grand dad who came to NZ] sister with her husband these two being my great grandparents. William who was Elizabeths first son born about 1857 lived with his mum and grandparents for a couple of years and then they are mentioned as being wife and child of our Great grandad Isaac Warters[Waters] in the next census and whom she had several children too over the years till they died. William and his 2nd wife came to NZ for his healths sake and from them two was 5 more children to add to his first 7 whom were a lot older, anyway they came to Motueka where they are buried and my 3 uncles are buried there as well, and my mum his daughter is buried in Stoke and other daughter in Greymouth. There are 9 of! us in my mums and dads [Leonard and Doris nee Waters Kelly family. Just my sister and i are in Nelson with our families , the rest elsewhere in NZ. Have been to Frederick and Carolines plus some of their family members graves in Wakapuaka and was wondering is there anyone in Nelson to place flowers etc on them if not i will gladly do it.Because our family was not into asking too many questions when our folks were alive, we have just found exact place for William [Elizabeth Lileys] son and his family in Motueka and have recently put a headstone on their graves.Yes i hope you maybe have more info about family maybe even a photo or certificate, love to hear back from you, this e mail address is my sons, mine is V.B@xtra.co.nz,thak you for taking the trouble to get in touch and i think i have it right you are probably a fifth or sixth cousin,So we areFREDERICK WHO CAME TO NZ SISTER ELIZABETH, WILLIAM SON OFF ELIZABETH, DORIS[MY MUM] DAUGHTER OF WILLIAM THEN ME [VALERIE]HOPE Y!
