Many thanks for your response to my enquiry. The information I posted re-Jonas & Harriet Littlewood came from the Census returns at Ancestry.com and their wedding information from Yorkshire BDM (St Peter's Leeds 1838. Ref: CE46/6/356). I was told by a member of FIBIS that their son Charles went to India in 1859. I keep hoping that I will find a link somewhere. They were stationery and never sailed from the coast of England. Prisoners were transferred to the convict ships when and where a place became available, I think you would be unable to trace which hulk they were held on but you could probably trace the ship they were transported on. Hi Listers Would anyone know where a convict would be sent once his trial was over in Doncaster and in York? I'm trying to find out which hulks my convict were sent to before being transported. Their details are: Christopher Briggs sentenced at Doncaster on 17 January 1831 Charles & James Briggs sentenced at York on 9 July 1831 The brothers all ended up on the Gilmore which departed for Van Diemen's Land on 27 November 1831. Does anyone know of a list (online preferably!) where I could look these up please? Many thanks Alison Alison Briggs Sydney Australia

G'day Listers, Last month I posted a message regarding the family of DRYDLE, DRYDALE and received a few emails with advise on searching for this family. All were gratefully appreciated. And helped fill in a few pieces and have given me new avenues to search. Now my problem is the wife of my John Drydle, Caroline STOTT. I know from their marriage certificate that her father was named Joseph STOTT and he was listed as a "Traveller". Some kind listers helped out with searches and it "appears" that Caroline's mother may have been named Rebecca HIRSTWOOD. I have looked in the 1841 and 1851 Census and can find no sign of this family. Am I searching incorrectly? Many thanks, Melissa in OZ..
Hi Melissa, What is Caroline STOTT's year and place of birth? This will help to find her. In the mid eighteen fifties, James Feiney married Elizabeth Dillon, born in Sligo, at Whitley, Yorkshire in 1847 . They had two sons, John and Richard while still at Whitley and maybe a daughter, Mary and another son, Thomas. They went to South Africa under a Settler's Scheme of some sort, stayed there a few years and were picked up at Capetown in 1865 by the British Government and taken to New Zealand under The Waikato Immigration Scheme. The dissatisfied S.A. migrants numbered enough to fill the passenger accommodation of five sailing ships. Their family members married and their descendants still live here - including mine, via my husband's family. As far as I have been able to find out, James Feiney was a miner - well, he died working for a gold mine in Thames, N.Z. twenty years later. Elizabeth, born in Sligo according to her N.Z. Death Cert., a goldmine of information on its own, her parents Dillon m. McCarty - father a weaver. Feiney is the way the name has always been spelt by them in N.Z., although there may be variations. I am wondering if James Feiney was born in Yorkshire? He was born c. 1826. They were Roman Catholics and I am wondering if that is why I can't find their marriage on the GRO? Am hoping to find out a bit more on this list....thanks to you all. Iris Page in Auckland, New Zealand.
