Listers interested in seeing what a couple of regular posters look and sound like may find it interesting to go to http://www.rootstelevision.com/, where they will find a series of interviews conducted by Dick Eastman, of the well-known Eastman's Online Genealogy newsletter, at the big National History Show, Who Do You Think You Are? LIVE! at Olympia last month. Click on "Browse Video List" and you will see the names of some familiar UK genealogists, including Dr Colin Chapman, Else Churchill (of the SoG), Chris Pomery (Guild of One-Name Studies) and Yours Truly (check that I don't really have horns!). Oh yes - and don't miss the interview with "The Hat Lady", thinly disguised as one Jackie Depelle of the Pudsey Civic Socirty! -- Roy Stockdill Guild of One-Name Studies: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Hi Colin, So glad you pout out that bit of information. I had no idea you could actually trace the hulks apart from the ports where they were moored. Does this work by name of the hulk or just who was held in them,. Regards JUDY ELKINGTON Elkington@rootsweb.com www.elkingtonfamily.com www.one-name.org/profiles/elkington.html

North Yorkshire is the biggest county in England, formed in part by the old North Riding of Yorkshire. The term 'riding' is of Viking origin and derives from Threthingr meaning a third part. There were indeed three ridings in Yorkshire - the East Riding, West Riding and North Riding. The ancient Kingdom of Lindsey, known today as Lincolnshire was also an area of considerable Viking settlement and was likewise divided into three ridings. The East and North Ridings of Yorkshire were separated by the River Derwent and the West and North Ridings were separated by the Ouse and the Ure-Nidd watershed I hope this helps to make it a little clearer for you. Hello There is just one JONAS LITTLEWOOD Christened in Holmfirth according to the BVRIv2 LITTLEWOOD, Jonas Christening Gender: Male Christening Date: 13 Mar 1757 Recorded in: Holmfirth, Yorkshire, England Father: Jonas LITTLEWOOD Source: FHL Film 990701 Dates: 1737 - 1794 However, as you can see, the dates covered end in 1794 - about 10 years before 'your' Jonas should have been born. You may, in time, find that this Jonas is your Jonas' father but will have to check with the parish records to confirm. There are no HARRIET BURRAS anywhere in the country!! (but remember it doesn't claim to be anywhere near 100% coverage) Good luck Heather Q maquis@maquis.karoo.co.uk wrote: > Hello > Do any Listers have JONAS LITTLEWOOD (born Holmfirth c.1811) and wife > HARRIET (nee BURRAS) in their family tree? > 1841 they were living Leeds West with sons Samuel & Charles. > 1851, 1871 still in Leeds at Cross Field Street with just Samuel. > 1881 at 6 Mark Street –Jonas aged 70 & Harriet aged 66. > Grateful for any information
