Yes I think 'Sculcoates' is almost certainly the right place. I've never heard of a 'Soulcoates'. And although the distance is significant if you are looking at a road map, it sounds like we are looking at sea travel, so going from Hull to/from Whitby would make a lot more sense. My favourite map website for the UK (and there are others) is www.streetmap.co.uk - that might help Good luck Kim --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail is the world's favourite email. It has been quite a few years since I posted the Wrigley,Brierley inquiry...and since then I have gained a significant amount of information. First, contrary to family myth, there are no Brierleys in my family tree. Edmund Wrigley of Knowl, Saddleworth married Jane Milnes. Two of their sons emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Edward is my ancester. He had a son named Joseph b. 1830 but he died in 1840. The family business was that of clothiers and Edward founded the Good Intent Woolen Mill in Philadelphia. I don't think we are closely connected but if you have more information I would be happy to see if we link up. 3. On Sunday 01 July 2007 21:52, you wrote: Dear Wendy, Thank you for reaffirming that for me. I thought it would be right, but seeing it was in Hull thought it best to be suer. Hull seems a fair way from Whitby, where I last found them. In 1853 and 1854 they registered two children there. Between then and 1860 they and their four children born in Y'shire migrated to South Africa on some Settlers' scheme and disappeared from sight to their Yorkshire families. In 1865 they were brought from South Africa with other disaffected families on five sailing ships paid for by the British Govt. on what is known as The Waikato Immigration Scheme. But by then the Dillons and other family in Whitby, where they had last been located, had completely lost track of them. Now we have been able to get in touch with them via this list and the wonderful efforts of June Wray and Joyce and a couple of others, whom I thank wholeheartedly, and reunite these families after over 150 years. This feels so wonderful. As a grandmother and great grandmother to some of their Dillon/Feiney (Fanney, Feaney) descendants I can't help but understand how happy some of those earlier parents and family would feel if they knew they are all coming closer to each other after so many generations...well, family is all to me as it is to most mothers. I looked at the url you included and found a photo of the established St. Hilda church - and would you believe, in the foreground is a white Citroen exactly the same as our own? Coincidence is a peculiar thing? Thanks, Ann. Iris Page on a beautiful soft winter day in Auckland, New Zealand. > Hi Iris, > > Sculcoates is an area in Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire.
