Author: madelinescully Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/14800.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There were a number of families with the surname Welsh, Walsh or Welch in that general area. I have a Thomas Welsh born 1802 in Rainton in Durham, not far from this area. Welshes of this family were sometimes registered/baptised as Welch or Walsh and can be found in Rainton Eng, East Rainton, Washington (nr Biddick), Houghton le Spring, Evenwood, and Eassington. The families were huge and most were connected in some way with the mining industry. My own Welsh line dates back to the 1600s in that general area and is intermingled with Watsons, Walkers, Parkins, Mortons and Lowes families. Let me know if any of these names or places match with yours. I have a huge amount of information on these familes. The chances of triplets surviving as well as the mother must have been minimal in those days without the benefits of modern medicine. They were the daughters of a 31-year-old labourer Andrew Stockdale and his wife Nancy 25, and were definitely triplets because their births also appear at FreeBMD as being registered together on the same page in the March quarter of 1858 at Skipton, vol 9a page 49. The son is down as named JOHN HOPE DREW. Must to have second thoughts after, as the name JOHN is not in the register book. On top of that she is sending me a plan of EXACTLY where she is. Also - she has told me that Sarah Ann`s husband George William Hardy is buried with her. It appears that all the Waughmans that I can find are descended from my great, great, great grandfather, Henry Waughman born about 1812. I have, however found that Henry and Tamar move to Poplar, Middlesex between 1911 and 1913. If you would like any other information about the Waughmans don't hesitate to contct me.
