Hi List, I have already thanked Meegan off-line, who supplied the Census information I requested. My husband was gobsmacked when it came back so quickly after posting. I just looked smug but didn't tell him that it is not always that fast! Hannah Maria was a portrait painter aged 46 in the 1861 Census. Her husband Richard HARDEY was a photographer. They lived in Hull and had no children. These two intrigue me as it seems to me that they were unusual in their occupations for that time. Does anyone know of Hannah or if there is someone in Hull who might know of her art? Can't track her down on Google although there are other Hannah Maria Hardeys scattered in the UK, USA and Canada - even Tasmania! Any clues would be most welcome. Thanks again Meegan for your interest and assistance. Cheers!..........Judy. Perth. W. Australia

Yorkshire's got more than 1 Linton though. You don't say what her father's name was - it should be on one of her marriage certificates. IGI has one born Nov 1809 Rillington, father John - there's a Linton about 3 miles away. Also on IGI one born Jan 1809 Bramham, father Christopher - there's a Linton about 6 miles away. Don't know if this helps or not. Jools Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. William came from East Rainton and Margaret from Evenwood, not far away. They married in Newcastle because it was a primitive methodist church. Margaret had a number of siblings: Sarah 1835, John 1839, Catherine 1840, Isaac, Mary 1825, Ann 1829 and William 1833. Their parents were William Walker 1797 of Cockfield and Catherine Gibson 1798 of Staindrop. They were married in Auckland St Helen.in 1818. I know of only one brother for William and his name was George. The Watsons come into the picture with the 3rd son of Margaret and William, James Walker Welsh. He married Mary Featherstone and then after her death married a Sarah Watson. This was in Evenwood as Margaret had died when James was only 3 moths old. It appears he went to live with Margaret's parents in Evenwood, although William remained in Houghton le Spring. I can see that this doesn't help much, but it may be of use further down the track for you. Happy hunting Regards Angela Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thanks Anne and Lynn for the help. I have the image for Ralph from origins, I am just trying to expand a little from what I have gathered from there. Your input is appreciated though. A bit of a long shot, but here goes!!!! I note from your post that you have some info on WALKERS in Durham? My major "brick wall" is locating the birth, origin and family of my great grandfather Samuel WALKER, who was born around 1840 or perhaps slightly earlier, and who usually gave his place of birth as Rainton or East Rainton, Durham. I cannot trace him prior to the 1861 Census, but have lots of info about him thereafter, his life in North Yorkshire as the Stationary Engine Driver at Rosedale, and his death in that town in 1912. His father was also Samuel WALKER, who was noted in 1861 as a Labourer and in 1883 as a Manager (both sources were his son's Marriage Certificates)..... Samuel's daughter Jane Elizabeth CLARKE (don't ask!) eventually married my gandfather James WATSON.... Any thoughts would be very gratefully received.
