Yorkshire list specialists, On 3rd September 1970 there was a fire in RAF Finningley's No.2. Hanger where three planes were destroyed, these included 'Claybourn's Flea'. It is intimated in various sources that the fire started in a Varsity aircraft but please can anyone tell me the outcome of the Board of Inquiry set up to investigate the cause? Many thanks Rod Clayburn

Hello Listers, I am helping out a chappie from Toronto in Canada, he has Doughtys in his family and thought I may be able to help him. His great uncle Thomas Henry Doughty, born in Canada, immigrated to Melbourne Australia on board the "Orient" in February 1887. His wife Lottie (nee Tye) and their two children Georgina and Gordon Rigney Doughty, were also with him. It appears that family sailed from Canada to England and there embarked on the "Orient" to sail Down Under. The father and mother of Thomas Henry Doughty, were Richard Doughty and Jane Dorothy Doughty and they immigrated from England to Canada between 1849 and 1854. Our big question regarding Richard and Jane is where in the the UK had they lived, before they immigrated? On birth certificates of children of Richard and Jane Dorothy Doughty born in Canada, Jane's maiden name is noted as HOLMAN. However, we have found a marriage of a Richard Doughty to a Jane OHMAN in York in March 1847 and the birth of a Jane OHMAN in Saint Olave, Yorkshire on 11th March 1828. Here are details of the Doughty family in Toronto, Ontario in Canada on the 1871 Census. Richard Doughty Jane's husband died around 1864:- Jane Doughty - 45, widow, Born England. Storekeeper. William Doughty - 22 Born England. Labourer - BORN CIRCA 1849 English born Richard Doughty - 17 Born Ontario. Labourer - BORN CIRCA 1854 Canadian born Thomas Henry Doughty - 15 Born Ontario. (He is the one who immigrated to Melb, Victoria, Austalia. Jane Doughty - 11. Born Ontario At a guess Richard Doughty's (born England circa 1824-1828) father's name may have been William, as Richard's first born was named William and the second born son is Richard, named after his father. Thomas may have been named after Jane's father. This is only assuming, I have not proof. Here is Jane's death:- Name: Jane Doughty Born: England Died: January 25th, 1888. Age: 59 yrs. From: Meningitis Rel.: Methodist Informant and Physician: Dr. R.H. Robinson. I hope SKS may know something about the Doughtys from York and if they are the Doughtys who immigrated to Canada. Regards, Janice Doughty Belrose - Sydney Australia
