Hi I have a relative (my gtgtgrandfather) who family say originated in Channel Islands(or his wife did) and was first seen in Hipperholme Cum Brighouse in 1881 with 2nd wife. My question is How / where can I look for Marriages in Channel Islands . His daughter is married and living in Saddleworth in 1881 My problem is I have never known her mothers name and cant get her birth cert as her place of birth varies on census 1881(nopt found before that) onwards and only ever given as a county. Any help appreciated Christine

There are two Cowlings in Yorkshire: Cowling on the A6068 mid way between Colne, Skipton and Keighley Cowling (much smaller) just west of Bedale in turn just off the A1 north of Ripon If you're after the Cowling near Skipton, there is a reasonably priced CD available from http://www.cravenindexes.co.uk/ which has numerous parish records for Cowling, Skipton, Sutton and Kildwick. I bought a copy last year as I have ancestors in the area and have tied up sooooo many lose ends :-) Sorry, I cannot help you with the other Cowling.
