The Yeadon Airtons are my direct line from my mothr. My g. grandfather was Walter Airton. He married my g. grandmother, Mary Jane Boddy and they had 5 children. However, Mary Jane's sister, Martha Elizabeth Boddy, was living with them and she had five children to my g. grandfather, Walter, while living in the same house (Now you know where your grandfathr's name came from). Their names were, Minnie, Edward, Nelly, Harris and Hilda. Eventually Mary Jane divorced Walter, and he went on to marry Martha Elizabeth and they had a daughter Annie Elizabeth. Nelly went on to marry someone by the surname of Flesher. As you say, the parents of the 'Flesher' children died and they were brought up by their Airton grandparents and they changed their name. There are two men, who are cousins, and they live in Canada. One is named Eric Airton, and the other Granville Airton. I cannot remember if they are both from the Flesher line, but I do know that Granville is definitely one of the Fleshers. I hope this helps somewhat. Author: anne_peat Surnames: Sorfleet, Woods, Marsden Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/14869.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Katherine, welcome to the world of family history! If your parents are still alive you could find a lot from them - for instance their marriage certificate will have the names of each of their fathers. If you can find their birth certificates, that will have the names of both their parents and the maiden name of their mothers - so you go one further step back. You can look up marriages ( and your own birth if it was in the UK ) on sites such as FreeBMD, UKBMD, for free and Ancestry and findmypast for a subscription. Since you have such an unusual name , you could look at the 1901 census, but you will still need to link any you find into your family tree - so start with you and go backwards. Marsden is a very common name, and i know there are lots and lots in Yorkshire - I have two separate strands in my own tree. Hope this helps Anne Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: JudyElkington Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/14869.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi You arew obviously very new to genealogy [looking for your family tree] but you could find it if you follow a few rules. Go to your local library and ask if they have any books on genealogy/family tree and try and read up on a few points. You could start with yourself and your birthdate and that of any brothers and sisters. If you have your parents marriage certificate that would tell you what your father's job was if you don't know it and also your grandfather's job Whatever you do you must make careful notes on every date aand event. Births, Marriages and Deaths are very important. Don't be afraid to ask for help, you are not expected to know it all at one and once you ask people can help you with any problems you might come across. 1. [YORKSHIRE] Directory look up for Mary YALE
    2. Paul Ellis
    3. Hi Listers, according to White's Directory of Ripon 1837 Mrs Mary YALE has a listing under the heading Miscellany of Trades. The "business" is listed at Coltsgate Hill. Have any listers got access to any directories of the same period which might give some clue as to the nature of the business? I am also still hitting a brick wall with Mary's parents. I know her father was one, William FENTON esq and her mother was Isabella, but all the William FENTONs I've come across either died unmarried or married a different woman. I've searched the BMDs and census but William died before 1841 as Isabella is listed as a widow then. I also think that they were a wealthy family because Isabella and Mary had independent means and Mary later became a Chancery Lunatic. Apologies to all who read some of this the last time I submitted it but I thought there may be some new listers since last time. Any help would be appreciated Regards Paul in Nottingham

Author: MarleneCollis Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/14868.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you so much for your e-mail and kind offer. I know nothing of the Eaton family in Heeley, Sheffield other than a John H Eaton is named as "the informant" on my father's birth registration in 1923. I'm trying to establish the connection between this family and my grandmother Ethel Wildgoose (nee Goodison), she sadly died just 5 weeks after my father's birth and, as she was a widow, my father was "adopted". My father (now deceased) met his natural father who had the surname of Eaton so I suspect that the Eaton family are my father's family. This is very vague information but, it's all I have to try to research the Eaton family. Regards, Marlene Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Being in the states makes > it a tad more difficult.> There were no Visitations before 1530, the earliest known. The College of Arms was established by Richard III in 1483 or 1484. Arms are thought to have been introduced into England by King Stephen (1135-54), the Conqueror's grandson. There are no parish registers before 1538, when they were introduced by Thomas Cromwell, chief minister to Henry VIII. Before that date parish records are sparse and relate principally only to the rich and mighty. What you have are manorial records, wills etc, again relating almost entirely to a few great and powerful families, but these rarely go back beyond the Middle Ages. The Domesday Book (1086) has been published for every county, as far as I know, and I believe it's all online. Your chances of getting back beyond William the Conqueror are remote, since William took the lands and manors from their previous Anglo- Saxon owners and redistributed them amongst his supporters, the Norman lords and barons who came over with him. But why is it so important? It's only Americans who seem concerned with getting back to the Conqueror. Most of us are happy just to get back to the English Civil War! -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
