You just don't get the actual place or date.< Actually, if I may be slightly pedantic, the mother's maiden name appears in the GRO birth indexes from the July-September quarter of 1911 onwards and the spouse's name appears in the marriage indexes from the January-March quarter of 1912. There is also another website which can be extremely useful in accessing records, which is UKBMD. This comprises records from the local registrars' offices, as opposed to the GRO, and the Yorkshire section of this is at..... http://www.yorkshirebmd.info/ Here you will find entries for births, marriages and deaths from a number of Yorkshire registration districts. These can be very helpful in cases such as marriages where at FreeBMD you get four or even eight names on a page and you don't know who married who. The Yorkshire BMD site MAY give you the answer! -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." The only way to find the information is to buy the certificates or use the information from the censuses and cross reference them with the entries on the GRO indexes. Post 1912 you get the mother's maiden name and the spouse's surname so it's possible to find which children belonged to which parents and who married who. FreeBMD also helps in that respect. You just don't get the actual place or date. www.freebmd.org.uk has a system of Postems whereby people add information from certificates or parish registers to entries but there's only a small percentage of index entries that have these at the moment.

Author: nicolaskemp1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/4059.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm interested in reading your posting that you have a William and Samuel Kemp at Oulton (I assume Suffolk, not Norfolk) Both these names appear in my own family tree with Samuel born 1709, and William 1738 or 1742. William's first son was Samuel, but he died within three months. There were 12 children of whom the forst four died in infancy). Oulton Suffolk is a very small place, and I would suspect there must be a link. Samuel's parents were James and Mary (guessing that he would have been born between circa 1670-1690 - my 7g/grandfather)- and there the trail ends at present. 3. Interesting, and thanks for your response. I am looking for much earlier information. When we were at the farm, we met Mr Featherstone, the current owner / resident of the farm. He had ownership papers dating back nearly to the time of my STONEHOUSE family, but not *quite* far enough back. It was very interesting to see what he had, but I couldn't help but wish he'd had documentation for just one or two families farther back... always greedy, I guess. Still looking for sks heading for Northallerton. 1. [YORKSHIRE] Moor House Farm
    2. Nancy Keith
    3. Hello all When I was at Yorksgen in 2006, I was scheduled to go to the Northallerton Records Office. Unfortunately, that fell through - but now the need for information from there has grown more urgent, and I am hoping that someone will be kind enough to help me out. (It's a long walk from Michigan.) I need information on ownership of Moor House Farm in Bransdale, north of Kirkby Moorside. The farm (sometimes called "Moor Houses") was owned by my STONEHOUSE family back in the 1700s. Janice Wood ever-so-kindly took me to see the farm (thanks again, Janice!!!) and it was fascinating. The farm was owned by my 4x g-grandfather, Joseph STONEHOUSE. The house had a lintel over the door with: "J S 1802" written on it. The only problem with that is that my progenitor, Joseph STONEHOUSE, died in 1783. (His will mentions Moor House.) He had sons John, Joseph, and James - but James died in 1788. When I followed the christenings of John's and Joseph's (and the other children's) children, none were near Moor House, so I don't believe that any of the senior Joseph's children or grandchildren ever lived there after his death. So, then, who was the owner "J S" who built the house and put his initials over the front door? What years did the STONEHOUSE family own Moor House? It has become more urgent for me to know since a cousin is publishing another article on the STONEHOUSE family in Canada (which is where two brothers, Joseph, Jr and *my* Robert, immgrated in 1819 and 1830, respectively). He wants to include my gleanings from the Yorkshire years of this family - and I don't want to give him misinformation. Sorry for the long posting, but now you know why I would so much appreciate if someone visiting Northallerton would find information in the Deed Books (?) on Moor House Farm and, specifically, the years that the STONEHOUSE family (were there other family owners besides Joseph??) owned that farm. I will happily reimburse any costs incurred. Thank you! Nancy in cold, rainy, Michigan U S of A
