There are times when these devious spammers seem to wait until I haven't got my eyes glued to my computer monitor to send their rubbish. There would have been very little I could have done anyway as the poster was subscribed to the list. Complaining about spam is actually off-topic and should have been sent to me personally NOT the list. By forwarding the spam that every subscriber has already received the spammer has actually achieved a significant victory as there are now two references to the links in the Eng-Yorkshire archives. However, could I just mention that my purpose in the original posting was not just to have a "moan" about the lack of official sources in the IGI, Ancestral File and the WorldConnect Program family trees, but also a genuine attempt to discover whether anyone could draw my attention to any sources I might have overlooked in the attempt to link my Shackletons of Kirkby Malham to the Shackletons of Keighley who were forebears of Sir Ernest Shackleton. That, I would respectfully suggest, is relevant to the list and I would still welcome any information or suggestions purely on this aspect and forgetting any further criticism of the LDS. Just to reiterate a few details..... A family tree of Sir Ernest on the Internet at www.genealogy.com shows his descent from Rodger SHACLEDEN and Jenet [Janet} SHARPE who were married at Keighley on 30 Jan 1580/1. I've checked the descent as far as I can and it does appear to stand up. A tree at Ancestral File would seem to indicate that this couple were ancestors of mine also - however, the descent is crucially dependant upon a grandson of Roger and Janet, another Roger Shackleton who was baptised at Keighley on 24 Feb 1609/10, being the SAME Roger Shackleton who subsequently married Ann Hurtley at Kirkby Malham on 25 Aug 1633. I am confident these were my 9x-great-grandparents; however, I am NOT confident in making the same assumption that someone else has for the earlier link and I am frustrated by the lack of quoted sources. A few years ago I spent a fascinating day in the Deeds Registry at Wakefield and uncovered definite links between the Shackletons of Kirkby Malham and the Shackletons of Newsholme, Keighley - however the Deeds Registry did not begin until 1704 and the links I seek are virtually a century earlier. Mind you, It won't be the end of the world if I don't manage to prove the link to Sir Ernest.
