At a guess I would say the reason I cannot find George on 1851 Census, as he was serving in Ireland, this would be where he met Honara (Norah) and married her, as two of his sons were born in Ireland. I found George Roebuck on the 1861 Census, he is 42 a Coal Miner, his wife Norah is 36 born Innes, Ireland, children John 15 is a horse drive in coal mine born Trawlee, Kerry Ireland, William 14 born Spike Cork Ireland, George 12 born Plymouth, Derbyshire, Fanny 11 born Derbyshire, Charles 9 born Brecknock a Horse Driver at Coal Mine, Thomas 2 born Rawmarsh, Yorkshire and Joseph 9 mnths also born Rawmarsh. Living at 43 Chapel Street in Rawmarsh, Yorkshire. Honora Roebuck died in Sept 1866 at the age of 42 death registered in Rotherham The 1871 Census. George is living at 172 New Street, Rawmarsh with his son, William 24 born in Cork, Ireland he is a Driller. William's wife Martha 22 born Rawmarsh, their daughter Charlotte 4, Mary Ann 3, Isaac 2, Arthur John 8 mnths, George is 52 and is a Miner, born Condor Park, Derbyshire, also George's sons Charles 19 a Miner born in Brecon, Wales, Thomas 16 a Miner born Rawmarsh. George's wife Hanora must be deceased. I believe I have found George's Widowed brother Thomas on the Census. He is 62 a Blacksmith born Aston Park in Derbyshire, he is living with his unemployed son William 34, Thomas 32 a Roller Ironworker and Matthew 29 also a Roller Ironworker all born Parkgate Yorkshire, all living in Rawmarsh. George Roebuck died in Sept 1880 aged 61 in Rotherham in Yorkshire. Regards Janice Belrose - Sydney Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Have you found him with a wife and children in the censuses from 1841 onwards? Did he remain in Armley or did he move? When did he die? Did he leave a will that names descendants? If you expect people to help you, then you need to supply more information than this. Walker is an extremely common surname in Yorkshire and there was very probably more than one Jeremiah. -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Since you obviously know precisely when and where Mary Harrison Farrer was born, have you obtained the birth certificate for starters? This will give you her parents, plus the father's occupation and mother's maiden name. You should then be able to find her in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. Having obtained the parents' names and ages, you should also then be able to find them in the earlier censuses and trace farther back. If you haven't obtained the birth certificate, I am bound to ask why not? It's the obvious place to start. I am afraid genealogy, like any other hobby, sometimes costs money! And if you have already obtained the certificate, then why not say so? Just posting a message like the above does not amount to serious research. You can't expect others to do it for you. -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." I would advise that you kee[p an open mind on this. As I have a siilar problem with-in my own family, but recent enough for me to be aware of the family situation and circumstances of the time. Not to confuse by given names; I'll just give the details. My father married 2ndly. Beatrice Hargreaves born 1893 Preston Lancs. She had my half brother, and died from T.B. My mother was the main carer of her cousin, the child of Beatrice & my father, being involved with the family, my mum became his 3rd. wife, going on to have other childre. It sounds complicated; but not when put into perspective of the times. My mum was the niece of Beatrice, and cousin to her child, She became the 3rd. wife and mother of the later children. This makes Beatrice's parents my gt.gr.parents, but to my half brother they were his gr. parents. It's the same ancestral decent on 2 branches, mine and my half brothers. Although my half brother is the same generation on that branch as my mum. A situation brought about by family need, for a child that needed looking after. After the death of his mother. Could this explain a situation in your family that has long since passed from living memory Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Our grandfather was Charles Frances. born 1870 in Scranton, PA. His wife was Kathryn Fleming, born in Emerald, WI. Our aunt Babe (Susan Antoinette Easbey Vikse), who just became a widow July 6th, 2009 when her husband, Sigurd Vikse, passed away, has a lot of information on the Fleming family but really nothing on the Easbey family. Trying to find information on the father of Charles Frances has been a real problem for me as all I've found on census records is that he was born in England. Since there are so very many Easby's (without the "e") in Yorkshire I've always surmised the family came from there. So you have any information on our great grandfather Easbey (or Easby). Charles Frances was a rebel of sorts, I believe, and my father, Charles Samuel, never wanted to find out anything as he always said that his father (Charles Frances) ra! n away from home and hitched a ride on railroad cars to Montana when he was about 18 or 19. At least that is the story my dad always told us kids. I am intriqued by it though and have always wanted to find our family roots somewhere back in England. If you have found out more please do let me know. Thanks so much. Virginia Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
