    1. [YORKSHIRE] YKS SURNAMES LIST
    2. Magdalena Gorrell Guimaraens
    3. Hello everybody, You may have been wondering why I have be so, so quiet for the past month or so. The fact is that I was away for the entire month of September and although I was able to get occasional Internet access, I had no possibility to update the list and make the changes of emails, etc. that so many have asked me to do. When I got back, my modem went on t blink and after sometime trying to get hold of my IT guru, it turned out that the modem itself had shorted, probably because of a thunderstorm. Then, we tried to connect a new modem but I had lost my secret username and it took almost two weeks to convince my provider that I was a bona fide subscriber! Unfortunately, the temporary connection my son lent me provides very little coverage in this little corner of heaven that is the far north of Portugal. As of this morning, however, all is fine and I have my machine back from the guru and am about to connect it all up. Thank you all for your patience - I will do my best to post an update and newly updated database Sunday evening. All the best, Magdalena -- MAGDALENA GORRELL GUIMARAENS Member of Council for the Portugal Region AIIC - International Association of Conference Interpreters [email protected] http://www.mgorrell.eu

Its not clear at all - you might be best uploading an image for the handwriting experts to look at! I've not come across that name anywhere in Yorkshire but Elland is a possibility. There is no more info on the census about which part of Yorkshire it was, so you will need some more info from somewhere! Yorkshire used to be divided into Ridings (separate counties), Elland would have been in the West Riding. Sorry, can't be more help & useless at handwriting! Good Luck Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In the 1871 Census (RG10/662) Mary Ann is recorded as being 30 years old and living in Lambeth,Surrey; in 1881 (RG11/1724)she is shown as age 39, living in East Ham,Essex. As for which Riding it's in - sorry, I have no idea. I had tried previously to track her down by trying to pick her up before she married but have had no luck so far. What I do know from birth and marriage cert's, is that when Mary Ann married Patrick her name is recorded as Mary Ann Pendegast. On their children's birth cert's, her name is recorded as Mary Ann BRYAN, previously PENDEGAST, formally BRENHAN or BRENNAN. I haven't been able to track down the first marriage yet, and according to the marriage cert to Patrick BRYAN, Mary Ann's father, Thomas BRENHAN, a mason, was dead by the time she married Patrick in 1870. 3. Hi Pauline There are three places called Low Moor(s) listed on the Genuki "Where is it in Yorkshire?" pages. The one near Bradford another at Osmotherly and Low Moors at Kirby Misperton. However, there are many other places called Low Moor. Funnily enough, I just came across another I didn't know about, close to Kirkby Overblow, which is near Harrogate. A farmstead close to where I live, in North Yorkshire, is called Low Moor. I know there are several others. Can you give any clues to help locate the right area? Where was he when he said his birthplace was Low Moor? Where were other family members born? Regards Janice Wood

Three years ago I was able to visit Seamer and St. Martin's Church - researching my ggg grandparents marriage (Mary Agar to John Hardwick; 1 Dec 1827). I'm sitting here right now without my notes so names are escaping me; but was given a wonderful spur of the moment tour of the Church by Mary and the next morning, Sunday, the pastor looked up records for me before service. He was so gracious and was to be my contact to find Mary's family as we had to leave that morning. At the time the genealogy service was moving into new headquarters and was closed for that period of time. By the time I was able to get back to my family research, St. Martin's pastor had retired. So if you could find out any hints about Mary and John's extended family, I would be very greatful. They had immigrated to Canada by 1831 and John's surname had become Hardick. Thanks so much for any tips you may have. Maureen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
