    1. [YORKSHIRE] Yorkshire goes south
    2. Janice Wood
    3. Hello all, Following a successful trip into Lancashire (!) a couple of weeks ago, I am going down south, on Sunday 22nd November, to the Milton Keynes Family History Show. This is at Bletchley Park - yes, the one that is famous for Winston Churchill's "Enigma" code breakers - 10.30am to 4pm. Details are on: http://www.centralexhibitions.co.uk/8.html Dr. Nick Barratt, from BBC TV's "Who Do You Think You Are" will be speaking, on "House History" and "Family History and the Media," at 12 midday and 2pm respectively. Dr. Bruce Durie of Strathclyde University, Glasgow will be speaking at 1pm about researching Family History in Scotland, "Not All Clans and Tartans" There will also be talks on Bletchley Park itself in the library and a guided tour. Refreshments will be available from the cafeteria, next door to the mansion house. It's easy to find, as it is right opposite to Bletchley rail station. Regards, Janice Wood

Not all listers (like myself) will bother to post replies to the board. If the OP wishes to see *all* replies, the would be well advised to look in the archives. >There is nothing on a board post to tell the poster it will be gatewayed to >the list and neither does there need to be At the bottom of http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.yks.general/mb.ashx it says... "Posts to this board are copied to the "ENG-YORKSHIRE-L" RootsWeb.com mailing list." ... in very small print. I think ancestry/rootsweb should do something to make board posters *more* aware of this. Maybe, for gatewayed boards, a pop-up the user needs to confirm before the post goes thru. Or better yet, a method to send gatewayed replies back to the board. >The system is simple, if its a gatewayed post (which is clearly signaled as >such) the list poster should click the blue link and reply there Since not everyone will follow the "system", I would recommend that the person asking for information/help take it upon themselves to look for replies wherever they might appear. *** Since this is not really Yorkshire related, I will now bow out of this discussion. -- Dennis Kowallek Cincinnati, Ohio [email protected] ******************

Right now, all they have is a hard-to-find note at the bottom of the browser window. Don't assume that replies that get sent only to the list aren't done so intentionally. -- Dennis Kowallek Cincinnati, Ohio [email protected] ******************

Hi Nancy Although the following hints otherwise, in my experience Treacle is the dark black stuff and Syrup is the lighter coloured stuff (as in Golden Syrup) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treacle I have never heard dark Treacle called Syrup in this Country Treacle was used for cooking and syrup was a tad more refined and used to pour over puds such as pancakes on shrove Tuesday(with the exception of steamed pudding which was made with golden syrup) I am now thoroughly hungry having thought of my mothers steam puds Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) >I can remember my Gran talking about treacle, but I honestly don't know >what that is.
