Hi Everyone, I am new to the list - can anyone tell me how/where to get photographs dated. I have been given copies of some ancestors - unfortunately don't know who they are - but thought if I could get them dates might be able to narrow it down a bit. Thanks for any help you can give. (I have entered corrections/variations for the above) ------------------------- You will often find the further the person is found from their birthplace the more vague or general is the location (an enumerator in Yorkshire may not have heard of Deanshanger so made his best guess what it was) When searching the census the County is more likely to be correctly spelled than the place within the County, likewise the forename is more likely to be correctly spelled than the surename (less options) If you don't find people in the census try less criteria, County , firstname and birth year /- 2 or 5 years for example Jobs father William was born in Wicken not far from Deanshanger NJO Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. So just to confirm, the areas i am researching are Yorkshire, Oxfordshire, Northhamptonshire, and Nottinghamshire, and these are all a shire with there own towns, villages, etc in them. For example I have a Job Tirrell born Deanshanger, Pottsbury, Northhampshire, so If any census records have any of these names on them that would be a possible match? Thats what is confusing me the most. rox Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am getting soooo confused with all the place names eg; civil parish, county borough, Ward, Rural district, and town or village. I know what they all mean but dont know what one I am meant to search for. If I am looking for someone in Wortley, I then need to look at Chapletown, Ecclesfield?, Hallamshire etc is that right. Sorry to sound so thick. Any advice will be most appreciated, Thanks Rox Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
