Hi Judith and others, I think maybe if you look closely there near the end of Marion there is a stroke could this be the beginnging of the letter H...but the other letters to go with a name.? .I think eevrybody is on the right track ..It appears to be a surname The mother's maiden name was MITCHELL...hence the youngest daughter is named after Clara's mother..'Phoebe Mitchell'. Who incidently is in the 5th carriage Mrs Joseph Mitchell ( Phoebe Mitchell nee Sutcliffe) and is also the sister to the widow Elizabeth (Mrs Abraham Mitchell). Thanks for trying everybody...to make matters worse I cn't findhim on the 1901 census to try and see what midle name thye came up with..I thought if I was fortunate to find the entry this might sort out the problem but alas.
