    1. [ BRAD] LEACH - Thornton and Allerton
    2. G'day all - especially to all those sweltering in the northern summer - from a cool 11 degree C southern winter's morning! I am interested in hearing from anyone researching the family of John and Mary LEACH/LEECH who at the time of the 1841 Census lived at Hill Top, Allerton. (They may have lived there all their married lives...?) Their children were: William b. 1806; Martha (Matty) b. 1809; Jonathan b. 1811; Hannah b. 1814; John b. 1816 - (all these were baptised at Kipping Independent Chapel, Thornton) ; Sarah b. 1821; Mary b. 1823; Thomas b. 1827 and Grace b. 1829 (all these were baptised at Allerton Congregational Chapel) In 1841 there were two 3 year old girls in the household but I do not yet know where they fit in! I am particularly interested in Jonathan m. Sarah/Salley /Sally SMITH (of Heptonstall). Jonathan was a shoemaker and in later life combined this with a newsagency. Between 1847 and 1875 (at least) his business (and home??) was in New Row/Road, Allerton. I have not been able to find New Row/Road on a 1980's map of Allerton, so would be glad to hear what it later became known as. In 1891 widowed Sally lived at 21 North Road (View) Allerton. Prior to that they may have lived in Chapel Terrace where their son was living at the time of his marriage in 1880. Elizabeth Hooper s.w. Victoria, Australia
