    3. for Mary Lou and anyone else who read my previous posting. Yes it was great to note even where he drank ale ! I just wish he had sharpened his pencil more often ! Bowling Enumerators notes District 4 1841 "All that part of the Township of Bowling, beginning at the house occupied by Thomas HILL , shopkeeper, and numbered 441 and every house on the east side of Wakefield road down to the Methodist's chapel, then turn on a footpath below the chapel to the left, and there will be found a farm house occupied by Abram HEAD and two cottages which are about 150 yards out of the Turnpike road; return by the same footpath into Wakefield road , turn down Wakefield road ,and take all the houses on the East side to the top of Low Lane and taking all the houses both north and south unto the bottom of the Lane, turn to the new houses then go up to Croft nook houses, turn back up Low Lane into Wakefield road and take the East side as before down to Furnace Lane, turn to the left on the lane and there are five houses upon the Furnace Hill, turn back into Wakefield road and take the East side down to John HARKER's shopkeeper number 592" Not so many names in this one but I get the feeling he was very careful not to miss any. This was June 1841, I wonder if he stopped for a chat with any of these folk.Quite good fun to visualise the day and the 'job satisfaction' this Benjamin FERRAND had . Hope I find my folk soon Valerie N Yorks
