Hi, I have just re-subscribed to this list hoping SKS will be able to help. Elias HARTLEY was my g.g.grandfather, born Knaresborough 1802, married in Leeds 1823 to Rhoda Swift. They lived in Knaresborough, he was a blacksmith and they had three children: Elizabeth, Thomas and William (my ggf). Rhoda died in 1840 and I can find no further trace of Elias. The 1841 and 1851 Census for Knaresborough show the children with their grandmother. I have combed the 1837 records and can only find listings of an Eli Hartley death i.e. June qtr 1852 Bradford Vol 9b page 72 March qtr 1853 Skipton (no vol or page) June qtr 1853 Keighley, Vol 9a page 143 and three possible marriages i.e. Ely Hartley Dec qtr Halifax 1842 Vol 22 page 140 Ellis Hartley, June qtr 1850 Knaresborough Vol 23 page 384 Ely Hartley, March qtr Stockton 1852 vol 10a page 71 I know he was dead by 1871 Please will someone tell me where I can look to check out these references. Where are the Census Records kept and also where would I find the Parish Records. I live in Cumbria but would be willing to make the trip if I thought I could solve this riddle.
