Hi List Promised MArtin I would forward this for him.................anyone any connections, please reply to Martin. Forwarded from Martin Willis" <mwilli17@ozemail.com.au copy of msg just posted to ENG-YKS-CRAVEN-L but that list seems somewhat moribund - I'm just starting out on research of a William WHITAKER alleged to have come from Skipton-in-Craven to Bath c.1800. He is thought to have possibly been an 'ensign in a Yorkshire regiment sent south c.1800' and rumoured to have been 'cashiered when young'. I would appreciated advice/guidance on how I might research this. He doesn't appear in the West Yorkshire Regiment Army List for 1780(?) [The only ones I could find online - or was it on fiche?] I've found numerous IGI references to a William bapt 28 Feb 1773, son of William WHITAKER, Weaver of Cononley and his wife Hannah - who are probably the couple who married in 7 Jan 1772 at St Andrew's Kildwick-in-Craven, Yorks WR. There seem to have been a total of 8 children baptised to this couple 1773-1784 in this parish. Not sure if this is the right one though, because the age on memorial stone of above William WHITAKER Jnr d 1836 in Walcot, Bath was given as 78 (at least that's what was recorded around 1923 - the church and burial ground no longer exist...) I currently have on loan the following LDS films for parish of St Andrews, Kildwick-in-Craven: FHL 1647582 Kildwick Parish Register Extracts 1770-1812 [Item 7 Baptisms 1770-1789, 1798-1812 / Item 8 burials 1798-1812] NB: an undated handwritten transcription in Keighley Public Library, possibly taken from the BTs and/or PRs FHL 0599995 The parish registers of St Andrews Kildwick-in-Craven Item 3 Baptisms: Mar 1744-Apr 1789 Marriages: Mar 1744-Mar 1754 Burials: Mar 1744-Jun 1771 NB: a 1939 printed transcription - possibly based on above handwritten one - with surname index FHL 0919148 Bishop's Transcripts 1600-1843 CoE Parish Church of Kildwick Christenings 1757-1828 Marriages 1757-1826 Burials 1757-1826 NB: very poor quality film Thanks, Martin Willis
