A date or approximate period would help. Presumably you have seen the term in some context - knowing the context might throw a light on it. Without knowing precisely what you mean, it could mean anything from the old-time music hall to a top West End show like "Cabaret" or "Oklahoma" to a production of Gilbert and Sullivan by the local amateur operatic society! If you have found the term in a census return, then why not tell us the full description and context?
