This well-known Hotel stands at the junction of Storr Hill Road and New Road Side.It was built during the years 1865-6,by Joseph BARRACLOUGH,father of Mr.Gaythorne BARRACLOUGH of Wike,Wm.HANSON being Architect.A beer license was obtained for it in 1866,and in 1867 a full license was granted. 2)The Old Red Lion Inn. This old hostel used to be in the block of buildings next to the Lower Manor House in Wike Lane,and when the Huddersfield Road was made the license was transferred to the present house,at the junction of the Whitehall and Huddersfield Road in 1822.It was kept by Anthony COLLINS. 3)The Furnace Inn. This old inn once existed near to the entrance of Town Gate,Wike,and near to what was called the 'Bowling Green'In the year 1822 it was kept by Samuel BIRKBY,butcher,and in the year 1830 it was occupied by Richard and Mary BIRKBY.
