[From a James Parker book about districts around Bradford,1902] This old chapel is situated at the junction of the Old Carr House Lane and the Bradford and Halifax highway. It has been modernised some years ago.It is supposed to be over two centuries old.It was the 'baiting'place for packmen and horses and stage coaches and their travellers before the new highway to Bradford and Halifax Road was made. In the year 1822 Thos.OGDEN kept this house ; 1830,Hannah OGDEN ;1838,James LIGHTOWLER ; 1845,John WILKINSON ; 1853,Jacob PINDER.The next landlords were as follows--- James WOOD 2 years ; John PILLING,7 years : John HOLDEN ; and Wm.JAGGER kept it 29 years--he died in 1900 and was succeeded by his son,Albert JAGGER,who is the present landlord [1902] ======================================== Being Shelf-born I can remember this old inn when I was going to Shelf Church School from 1933 to 1939.It was demolished sometime during those 7 years the present inn taking its place. Cheers------Derek.
